11 Points Inspired by Noah's Ark

From an email.

NOAH'S ARK

ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we're all in the same boat!

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

The JOY of the LORD is my STRENGTH.

No worries!

Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its trouble.
It empties today of its strength.

What makes me weak? My fears.

What makes me whole? My God.

What keeps me standing? My faith.

What makes me compassionate? My selflessness.

What makes me honest? My integrity.

What sustains my mind? My quest for knowledge.

What teaches me all lessons? My mistakes.

What lift's my head high? My pride, not arrogance.

What if I can't go on? Not an option.

What makes me victorious? My courage to climb.

What makes me competent? My confidence.

What makes me sensual? My insatiable essence.

What makes me beautiful? My everything.

What makes me a woman? My heart.

Who says I need love? I do.

What empowers me? My God & Me.

My new crazes: Bayonetta & Within Temptation

I'm getting more and more gothic and I like it.

I attended a colleague's wedding with zero realization that I'm "decorated" with a set of smoky pink-purple make-up plus hairdo resembling Bayonetta. XD

Cosplay prospects maybe? Bayonetta looks sizzlingly a$$-kicking! LOL.

Also, I'm totally in love with Within Temptation - a Gothic Metal, Symphonic Metal / Rock Dutch band. Nightwish
, another band from Finland of the same music genre still topped my list of favorite bands. :)

Here are 2 of my favorite songs from Within Temptation's "The Silent Force", of which I considered, their best album.

Sunshine by Gabrielle

I've been searching for Gabrielle's "Sunshine" for quite some time. So far, this is the best video that I could find on YouTube albeit moderate sound quality.

Life Snippets in October

To readers who personally know me, here's a little sneak peek of my Life Snippets in October.

There are no coincidences in life. No doubt about this. I've faith in God's way and timing in terms of paving our paths of yesterday, today, tomorrow, and even the future. And I believe, how we respond to Him determines the quality of life that we're gonna go through.

God gives us the freedom to either receive or reject what He has prepared beforehand for us. I'm learning to receive although sometimes I still reject certain things that don't go along with what I want. Oops.

Here's my life snippets thus far.

1. Career:

* Working life is rewarding with added responsibilities, new learning curves, and occasional hiccups (albeit major hiccup). I'm happy.
* I foresee challenges but this is the element that keeps me going! Bring it on! Competency is always versus complacency.

P.S.: Boss, if you're reading this, THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving your employees the CHANCE and FREEDOM to excel and grow in the company in areas that ignite our passion and desire to upgrade ourselves for ourselves and for the company. *salute*

2. Social Media, Networking, Friendship:

* This is definitely my new-found passion, whether in my daily life or working life.
* Social media plays a major role in giving me the strength and momentum to keep rolling on.
* I'm inspired to claim
joycescapade
as my online identity / trademark.
* New friends are found and a wider, upgraded network is formed via Twitter. I won't regret this.
* I've a poken. Do You Poken?

3. Faith:

* Found a place with serious study of the Word and at the same time, great bonding among cell members. Love them.
*
Lord, this I ask: Time to revive from dormancy. Time to get back into the Word. Time to bond with lovers of Christ and resume growth.
* Gotta find where I put my physical Bible although I've the electronic version. :)

4. Attitude:

* 不想對每件事都那麼嚴格;弄得全世界好像只剩挫折;愛一朵花不猜它能開多久;放寬的心情把什麼都變美了。(Means: Don't wanna treat every matter too strictly as if there are only frustrations in the whole world. There's no need to guess how long will a flower bloom; everything's beautiful if mood is relaxed.) This is a Mandarin song.

Movie: Chaw (Man-eating Boar) (2009)

Okay. Let me apply the K.I.S.S (Keep It Short & Simple) principle while I try my best to write what on earth is Chaw (Man-eating Boar) all about.

Sammae-ri is a small and peaceful village, somewhere in South Korea, known for its crime-less reputation until one day, horribly mutilated human body parts are discovered on the mountains. Soon, they realize that a man-eating boar is somewhere around.

So, the hunt for the boar (called Chaw) begins with a group of 5 people: Officer Kim, a newly transferred police officer from Seoul; Il-man, a legendary retired hunter; Baek, a famous hunter hired by the village's head to kill the monstrous boar; Detective Shin who's in charge of the case; and ecologist Soo-ryeon who takes any risk to study mutant animal species.

So, you'll watch how the boar terrorize the villagers and how the five silly human beings chase the monstrous boar or worse, vice versa.

As usual, the trend of Korean filmmakers is that they love to fuse action, thriller, and humor elements together in their movies. The problem is, the humor element doesn't work. In fact, it's kind of annoying and somehow, I feel retarded watching their childish acts. I understand that they want to leverage tense moments with some lighthearted jokes. But, silly slapstick jokes don't work, okay?

So, honestly speaking, I don't recommend this movie unless you seriously wanna watch a huge mutant, CGI-ed boar that keeps tearing people into pieces. I watched it for RM6. So, it's fine. :)

Windows 7 Malaysia Movement :: Get Engaged via Contests

Are you counting down to the official launch of Windows 7? No doubt, I am! However, in the midst of counting down to that day, I find it very interesting to get engaged in and move among the crowd of Windows 7 fans / lovers as the tidal wave of Windows 7 Malaysia movement keeps us buoyant and excited with numerous FUN contests that come with BIG prizes!

The interesting thing is this. The contests are conducted via these three main channels: Windows 7 Malaysia Website, Windows 7 Malaysia Facebook Fan Page, and Windows 7 Malaysia Twitter Page. I'm online almost 24/7 and a hyperactive Twitter and Facebook user. Participating in any of the current running contests is fun, easy, and hassle-free!

Another point of observation is this. These online contests have become a ground of get-togetherness. Why would I say so? The participants, either via Facebook or Twitter, who have been strangers before, are brought together into numerous online or even offline discussions, info sharing, and network building. Such is a good way to reach out and to garner trust and mutuality amidst the online society pertaining to the brand itself, i.e. Windows 7 Malaysia.

Let's make a quick recap.

Bangkok Traffic (Love) Story (2009) International Trailer

I must watch this movie. I must. There's this sense of familiarity, sort of like my life's a movie plot and vice versa...

Movie: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)

It has been a great & rewarding Sunday.

* Attended church service at SIBKL, feels at home. Thanks for prayers. Next challenge, attend oncoming Sunday services, let's see how it goes. Also, it'd be good to attend cell group meetings to bond with the church members. Without bonding, it's seriously hard to stay and I'll either be dormant or church-hopping again...

* Lunch tweet-up at FullHouse, NZX with @redsheep @geminianeyes @MrG82 @spinzer, it's great to make friends with great new people. Twitter did and is doing a good job in bringing strangers together and the next thing you know, they're friends!

* 20-minute arcade "tour". I played an arcade game for 15-20 minutes! It's something like hitting a drum by following some Japanese music rhythm. My first time! OMG! :P

* Movie tweet-up at GSC, One Utama - Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball with the lunch gang, except @geminianeyes.

Honestly speaking and totally unexpected, I'm bewildered and convinced to give a 5/5 stars to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball, a 2009 animated comedy, fantasy movie, written and produced by Phil Lord & Chris Miller, based on the book written by Judi & Ron Barrett.

What's the verdict?

1. Impressively colorful visuals with rich, smooth texture. I thought I'm watching it in 3D. 2D is good enough to get me smitten, wide-eyed, and glued to my seat throughout the whole 90 minutes. The animation and every single detail of the characters, including the different food items are so vivid and lively.

2.
This is a great, lighthearted comedy for both kids and adults with jokes and funny liners so good in taste and shape and are genuinely funny. A perfectly chosen cast helps to bring the movie into momentum. There are kiddie moments but for the young-at-hearts, believe me, you'll get cracked up and laugh for a whole 60 minutes or so.

3. Very educational and it boils down to this: How far would you believe in or sacrifice for your loved ones in order to stick to and realize your dreams and passions? Think about it. This is a very good movie to instill the importance of family values in the young ones.

4. There's so much food! Pizzas, burgers, pancakes, steaks, hot dogs, gummy bears, Jell-O (my favorite heartwarming scene. Awww...)

This is a very fun, lighthearted, valuable, and rewarding movie. Never have I felt so satisfied walking out of the cinema after watching an animated movie (apart from UP). Great family movie, great movie for movie-get-together, great movie for those who don't trust in what they can get from animated movies. Highly recommended.

Read here for detailed synopsis. Read "An Insightful, Irreverent Interview with the Directing Team Behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs".

I'd still say, go watch. You won't regret it. I promise this. I'll watch it again.

[Friday-30] Pandorum (2009)

Pandorum (2009) is a serious and dark sci-fi thriller/horror movie that eerily reminds me of the infamous "Alien" movie franchise. I remembered growing up in the 80s, scared by Alien's "Facehugger", "Chestburster", and those horrible bugs-look-alike-with-mandibles-and-tentacles biological species every time I watched Alien.

This time round, there's this strong sense of deja vu as I watch Pandorum on the big screen, especially when the "other species" appear onscreen. However, forget about Alien because Pandorum has a different plot, direction, and destination.

Here are some random thoughts, hopefully not spoilers. :)

Pandorum is a sci-fi movie, so you get to see the outerspace, spaceship, space crew, space technology, no doubt. Also, what's a sci-fi movie without non-human biological species, right? But, there's an interesting twist in Pandorum pertaining to the origin of the species. In fact, a good and logical one. What about the ending? Surprisingly unexpected yet not confusing; it's almost relieving.

In terms of thrill, tension, action, and gore? Yes, these elements plus the dark, building sense of anticipation are enough to jerk you from your seat from time to time.

In short, an entertaining, non thought-provoking watch. If you're not a sci-fi thriller fan and don't like to be stressed out, don't watch. :) You know what I mean.

在樹上唱歌 :: 郭靜 (Claire Kwok)

Friday Lunch @ Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar (Monrods Kitchen), Kelana Mall

Update: This outlet is not operating any longer.

Let's take a peek at this outlet with a rather queer branding -

Address: 31-1 (Ground Floor) Kelana Mall, Jalan SS6/12, Kelana Jaya, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

So, I believe, Nasi Ayam (Chicken Rice) should be this outlet's signature dish.

Interior - Airy, mostly furnished in black and red and walled with gigantic chicken rice menu visuals. See the 2 photos below.

The 3 photos below are their 3 main signature dishes: Nasi Ayam Panggang, Nasi Ayam Dot Mai, and Nasi Ayam Madu.

Everything's new, I'm swamped, yet ecstatic!

October is new month, a new beginning for me.

I've new friends, extended network, increased work responsibilities / projects, and more opportunities to garner clients' trust in terms of managing expectations and timelines.

Thus, I found myself boosting with renewed confidence, competency, and craziness for more work! Never ever let me slack. I'll become fairly retarded, complacent, and unproductive. Then, I'll go around telling everybody, "I'm bored."

The important thing is this: I found my true passion. Coupled with the prospect of engaging wider job scopes and opportunities, I'm truly energized and ecstatic!

Everything's new! Or, renewed!

Then, of course, I'll be swamped with sending, replying, and following-up emails. Aha... Back to the old days whereby I've to work late! But then, I think I need to polish my nurturing skill. I'm too independent and tend to overlook the importance of taking care of the juniors. Hmmm...

Found this really great article helpful: How to Find Time for... Everything!

1. Get Organized
2. Separate Work Space from Everything-Else Space
3. Take Advantage of Time Management Tools
4. Set Goals
5. Set Deadlines
6. Plan Ahead
7. Prioritize
8. Delegate or Outsource
9. Optimize Your Processes
10. Learn to Say "No"
11. Learn When You Work Best
12. Set Regular Working Hours
13. Don't Waste Time
14. Avoid Multitasking
15. Take Frequent Breaks
16. Maintain

Cheers to all!

Movie: Push (2009)

PUSH - 2009 American science fiction thriller movie. It's notable that this movie excels above recent superhero genre movies. Hang on tight as a gang of superhero operatives takes you on a white-knuckle thrill ride.

"Push" is shot primarily in Hong Kong. The way this movie takes the audience to "tour" through Hong Kong's slump-like areas, wet markets, and budget hotels sets it apart from Hollywood's high-budget superhero movies. Better still, the superheros in "Push" are hardly distinguishable from normal human beings, thus they're surprisingly and remarkably realistic.

Let's take a look at its synopsis: A future-seeing Watcher, Cassie (Dakota Fanning) convinces a telekinetic Mover, Nick (Chris Evans) to help her in retrieving a briefcase that holds a highly confidential government secret. To outrun the government agents called the Division, they must enlist a mind-controlling Pusher, Kira (Camilla Belle) who could be their salvation - or doom.

Here's the list of superpowers in "Push", summarized from Push - Wikipedia:

1. Watchers: Able to foresee the future to various degrees, often basing their visions on the knowledge of the intentions of others.

2. Movers: Telekinetic, able to manipulate inanimate objects at varying distances.

3. Pushers: Able to push memories, thoughts and emotions into the minds of other people.

4. Bleeders: Able to emit high-pitched sonic vibrations that cause ruptures in a target's blood vessels.

5. Sniffers: Able to track the location of either people or objects over varying distances.

6. Readers: Able to use physical contact of an object to view its history.

7. Shifters: Able to temporarily shift patterns of light on any object to create illusions to the naked eye.

8. Wipers: Skilled at either temporary or permanent memory erasure.

9. Shadows: Able to block the vision of Sniffers, making any subject within their target radius appear "dark".

10. Stitches: Psychic surgeons trained to quickly reconstruct cells to their previous or healthy state. Using only their hands, they can heal and even "un-heal" whatever they have done.

Push is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, smoking and a scene of teen drinking. Run time is slightly under 2 hours. Worth a watch.

Note: I watched this movie on DVD.
