Disposable diapers. I can't live without them. I'm clueless about the traditional method of EC (elimination communication) whereby mothers read the baby's cue when he's about to pee or poo. I've no idea how that's even possible. Hahaha.
So, I stick to disposable diapers... until recently when I learn that cloth diapering is slowly gaining popularity among modern mothers.
Mommy Grace from Gracious Little Things recently blogged about 5 facts about cloth diapering. I'm quite concerned after reading her blog post, especially #2 and #3.
Fact #2: Disposable diapers contain chemicals like dioxin, which according to certain parties are responsible for immune system deficiencies, cancer and hormonal concerns.
Fact #3: ONE baby alone can use up to 6,000 diapers - that's almost enough diapers to equal the weight of a car. Malaysia has about 600,000 babies a year. Now, imagine all those diapers in landfills.
Before that, I've tried to understand cloth diapering by reading mommy Eva's blog. She has an extensive collection of reviews about different cloth diapers.
And so, I bought a box of MyEcoNappy as recommended by Eva.

Easy to use because these cloth diapers resemble disposables.
1) Adjust desired cover/shell size by using the snap buttons.
2) Fold soaker with product label inside.
3) Place pre-fold soaker with pattern design facing up onto opened diaper cover.
4) Diaper baby and fasten snugly.

I like the velcro-style fastening. It resembles disposables (familiarity is important for me), allows flexible size adjustment, and easy to use. It's really strong and my boy can't pry it off.
The outer cover is made from breathable waterproof material to prevent leaks whereas the inner cover is made from soft cool-fit material to keep baby dry and comfortable.

The three-fold soakers absorb pee fast and hold a lot of it for a long time. The three panels are made of two materials. The middle panel (as shown in image above) is antibacterial bamboo fleece. The other two panels are super absorbent micro terry.

Since I'm pretty new to cloth diapering, my requirements are pretty simple.
- The cloth diapering system must be simple and as close as possible to disposables.
- Affordable!
- One size fits all so that I don't over-buy wrong sizes as he grows.
- Baby's bottom stays dry and comfortable. Must not cause rashes and infections.
- Easy to use and hassle-free when it comes to cleaning.
