What is KLEAN?
KLEAN is a digital container deposit system in Malaysia that aims to reduce plastic waste and promote recycling as part of a broader effort to encourage sustainable practices and environmental consciousness. It operates through AI-based reverse vending machines (RVMs), where users can deposit used plastic bottles and aluminum cans. For each item recycled, users earn points, which can be exchanged for rewards such as mobile credit or discounts.
By connecting to the Klean Recycling App, KLEAN creates a comprehensive recycling ecosystem that integrates infrastructure, rewards, and reporting. This innovative approach not only makes recycling more accessible but also provides a tangible incentive for individuals to participate, thereby increasing the collection of recyclable materials and reducing the environmental impact of waste.
Apart from the blue KLEAN vending machine at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, I also saw another one, this time yellow, at Paradigm Mall.
