Project 365 - Photo #312

I just realized that my current photos for Project 365 are always about food! Hmmm... That's not so good. :P

Anyway, here are dim sum dishes from Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong (59, 61 & 63, Jalan SS22/19, Damansara Jaya, 47300 Petaling Jaya).

Check out my first and second visit to this restaurant.

Budget Weekend Meals

I'm on diet and my purse is on budget. So, can't spend too much on food. :P

Found some nice places to have dinner.

First, the Thai food stalls behind Giant Kelana Jaya, LDP. They aren't permanent but seasonal. Usually, they'll spend about a month here before moving elsewhere and come back again some other time.

The food stalls provide a variety of Thai delicacies.

Thai Chicken Noodle Soup (RM5 per bowl)
Tastes like Chinese herb soup but slightly sweeter. Quite oily, don't consume the soup. Its portion is just nice with two pieces of chicken and some kangkung. You can choose the type of noodles that you want.

Songtam (RM5 per plate)
This is the very well-known Thai young papaya salad. If you don't like its spiciness and saltiness, do remind the lady to omit the chillies (super hot cili padi) and rock salt. Or else, you'll have a hard time finishing the whole plate.

******************************

Another great place for Dim Sum - Dragon One at SS2, Petaling Jaya, right beside Murni.

Fried Bean Sheet
I opted for the cheaper version, the one without prawns. :)

Minced Meat & Fish Ball
Hmmm... Not bad but they could have increase the fillings, not thickening the outer skin. :)

Restoran Key Way @ Taman Paramount, PJ

After Gasing Hill, we went for breakfast at Restoran Key Way, Taman Paramount.

Eat . Chat . Plan

I guess most of us know the usual drill of dimsum types, I'm not gonna explain. The photos are self-explanatory. :)

Where is this place? Locate it within the area of Taman Paramount's Giant Hypermarket.

2nd Visit: Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong @ Damansara Jaya

Okay, I admit that I love dim sum soooooo much that I've to apologize about posting about dim sum again till you're damn fed up with it. :)

So, here's the verdict of my second visit to Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong @ Damansara Jaya with my sister, another crazy dim sum lover.
:P

Hmmm... I believe very much that "it takes two hands to clap". In BM, "bertepuk sebelah tangan takkan berbunyi". In Mandarin, "孤掌难鸣"

Okay, put that aside and let's talk about food.

RM3.50 each. Then, include 5% service charge & 5% government tax to your bill.

:)

Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong @ Damansara Jaya

I've found another Dim Sum restaurant, which is located at Damansara Jaya. Here's Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong Sdn Bhd (Damansara Jaya Branch), 锦选香港特极点心。

Address: 59, 61 & 63, Jalan SS22/19, Damansara Jaya, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Tel.: 03-7729 6866; Fax: 03-7982 5117

Oh, I found some interesting info when I flipped to the back of its business card. Its HQ is known as Restoran Kam Him (A32, 34, 36, Jalan 1/116B, Kuchai Enterpreneurs' Park, 58200 KL). This Damansara Jaya branch (Jin Xuan) is the 2nd branch whereas the 3rd branch (also Jin Xuan) is located at 63G, 65G, Jalan SS21/60, Damansara Utama, 47400, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Okay. Now, let's take a look at DIM SUM.
Disclaimer: The price tags are correct at the time of posting and are subject to changes.

This is the first time I tried dim sum with mussels! Green mussels cheese-mai, very innovative. Basically, you'll have a two mussels (the shell side with its flesh intact), overloaded with shrimp and pork paste, and drowned in watery cheesey sauce. Well... not bad for the first bite. But, if you don't like the combination of cheese and pork, you'll find this cheese-mai weird tasting.

Here are some of the dim sums my sis and I tried. Har Gow, Mixed Seafood Dumpling, Seaweed Roll, Bamboo Fungus Shrimp Dumpling, Char Xiu Bao, and Wu Gok.

Okay. We went there for dinner, I mean it's almost supper time. So, their quality was kinda so-so and not as fresh as I thought they'd be. Truthfully speaking, it's not a good idea to eat everything in shrimp and pork because they'll make you feel jelak. Sure enough, we can't finish all of them and have to tapao back.

Surprisingly, the bill came up to be RM30++ only, inclusive of 5% service charge and 5% government tax. Not bad. It's give and take anyway, I mean, you get that quality for that price.

Try it out if you happen to go to Atria @ Damansara Jaya. This restaurant faces the main road, it's almost impossible for you to miss it, for goodness' sake!

Dragon One @ SS2

There are many places to savor affordable and delicious dim sum in SS2, Petaling Jaya. I'm wondering how will they survive?
A Little Dim Sum Place
Restoran Chef Loong

And now, Dragon One (don't mix up with Dragon-i or Canton-i). An interesting fact found on Dragon One's simple two-sided pamphlet, Chef Loong (one of its owners) is specialized in dim sum preparation at JW Marriott Hotel and Palace of The Golden Horses previously.
According to a waitress, Chef Loong also worked at Restoran Chef Loong for one and a half years.

Address: No. 59, Ground Floor, Jln SS2/75, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor (between Murni & Public Bank, SS2)
Tel.: 012-398 9803 (Chef Loong)
Business Hours: Tue - Sat (12-10:30pm); Sun & Public Holidays (10am - 10:30pm); Closed on Mondays. Funny, why are these dim sum fellas like to close shop on Mondays?

Prawn Dumplings with Spinach (Har Gao) - Rm4.80 for 3
Chunks of fresh prawn with spinach - an interesting combination!

Jellyfish with Shredded Carrot (left) - RM5.80
Stir-fried Bean Sheet (right) - RM4.50
Jellyfish is springy and crunchy, with the usual blend with light soy sauce. Also, I've been looking for stir-fried bean sheet (
炒粉皮) for a looooong time. I like the transparent, springy "plastic" sheets that are made tasty after being stir-fried with chives, eggs, prawns, etc.

BBQ Char Siew Bao - RM3.60 for 2
Errr... They can do better, I believe, at least bigger than Xiao Long Bao, please. I guess, since Char Siew Bao is not as popular as Xiao Long Bao, they may still the same.

Ma Lai Koh (Steamed Layer Cake) - RM4.50 for 4 cubes
This is the first time I tried Ma Lai Koh. Hmmm... my sister likes it. For me, I need time to accept the combination of slightly sweet custard with salted egg yolk. :S

Let me list out some dishes that are highlighted on their pamphlet: Pan-Fried Meat Buns, Shanghai Style La Mian with Crab Roe, Lotus Paste Balls, Stir-Fried Yam Cake, Pretty Lady Buns (they come in a pair and really look like women's breasts), Steamed Rice Flour Roll with Duck Meat in Crab Sauce, Avocado with Kataifi (I still don't get the meaning of this dish), Deep Fried Spring Roll with Unagi and Yoghurt, Steamed Fish Paste Dumpling with Oyster Sauce, Stir-Fried Vermicelli with Minced Pork, Deep Fried Prawn Roll with Orange Sauce, Baked Prawn Dumpling with Cheese. Ta-da!

No service charge yet. Good! I shall come again and try out those dishes with canggih names. LOL.

Restoran Chef Loong (龙师傅) - SS2

Dim Sum has become part of my staple food. Lol. I told my sister, jokingly, I should add, "Try out dim sum at every restaurant that sells dim sum in PJ" to my 2009 resolution list. Cool ehh...

After A Little Dim Sum Place, also at SS2, PJ, I went to
Restoran Chef Loong (龙师傅).

Took this photo from afar.

Address:
No. 86, Jln SS2/60, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Tel.: 03-7877 4826
Business Hours: Tue - Fri (12-3pm; 6pm - 12am); Sat - Sun (10am - 12am); Closed on Mondays.

Prawn Dumpling (RM5.80 for 3)
They don't look like the conventional prawn dumplings or better known as har gao, which look like a translucent clam. Chef Loong serves prawn dumplings with flimsy but nicely attached outer skin (although it's a bit sticky to my taste) which encloses a delicious ball of fresh prawn and a generous amount of Chinese parsley/yuen sai (Cantonese) or daun ketumbar. Fish roe is added on top for a more presentable look, I guess, and that gives it the unconventional look. Very interesting. Definitely my favorite, as always, at any dim sum restaurant.

Steam Dumpling (RM4 for 3)
Better known as siew mai. Topped with Chinese parsley and orangey-red fish roe, they look invitingly delicious. The whole chunk of meat is springy, firm, and fresh. An excellent choice for siew mai lovers.

Char Siew Pau (RM3.80 for 2)
The best thing is that I don't have to pick fat layers from its filling or refrain from eating the bread ('skin'), which I always do and have to do if I buy from those usual Chinese restaurants that sell pau in a tall metal tray. Chef Loong's Char Siew Pau is proportionate and doesn't make me nauseous. Haha!

Durian Pancake (RM5.20 for 2)
I thought A Little Dim Sum Place's Durian Pancake is heavenly. Now I tasted a heavenlier Durian Pancake! This dessert is worth a try for durian lovers. I wonder where else I can try them.

Honestly speaking, I'll come again.

[Friday-1] Dim sum at Canton-i

According to my sis, Friday night is movie + eating out night. That's a very good idea for me to start my Friday Files! Canton-i @ One Utama has the honor to be our first "guest". LOL.

Tried stewed beef balls, jellyfish + cuttlefish, prawn wantan. I'd say they tasted okay... only. May be I didn't come at the right time. LOL.

A Little Dim Sum Place - SS2

Here's an interesting place to have dim sum, with limited choices. :P That's good news to me because I don't like famous restaurants where I have to waste my time waiting to be seated and served. So, whenever I want to eat dim sum, I'll visit A Little Dim Sum Place.

Address: No. 12, Jln SS2/63, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Tel.: 03-7873 1876
Business Hours: Tue - Fri (9am - 3pm; 6:30pm - 12:30am); Sat - Sun (9am - 12:30am); Closed on Mondays.

Honey BBQ Pork Bun (RM3 for 2)
This is their Char Siew Bao. I should say, they should reduce the 'skin' and increase its honey BBQ pork filling. You know what I mean.

Bacon Roll (RM5.80 for 3)

Hmmm... Inappropriately named. Tasted more like fried meatloaf served with shredded Chinese lettuce and mayonnaise.

Sunshine Bun (RM3.50 for 2)
This cute little bun has an orange-colored soft crust. Its filling is made from a special blend of molten egg yolk with custard, thus giving it a sweet yet slightly saltish flavor. Very unique. However, make sure you don't burn your tongue when you bite into it. Open it up and let it cool down a bit before eating. :)

Prawn Dumpling (RM6 for 3)
This is their famous Har Gao. Quite expensive, but when you open up its almost translucent skin, you could see a firm ball of prawn. Fresh and springy, these dumplings are delightful to eat!

Durian Pancake (RM5.30 for 2)
This is my all-time favorite dessert! No matter what happen, as long as I drop by this place, I'll order this soft little 'pancake'. Best eaten chilled as dessert. If you love durian, give this dessert a try. Thumbs up!

Read about this.
