Fill in the Blank Friday - Some recent factoids

This week's post for my Fill in the Blank Friday series.

1. My best quality is that I'm fiercely loyal, but I limit my loyalty to people and things that matter in my life.

2. One of my less flattering qualities is that I'm too full of empathy. Empathy is the power of identifying, understanding, and imaginatively entering into another person's situation, feelings, and motives. I guess I'm too full of imagination so some people get turned off.

3. I'd rather be singing than be sighing. I remember this line from a church hymn.

4. Something I have been challenged with lately is to take it easy and don't stress myself about how-difficult-it-is-to-get-pregnant. I gotta believe all is in God's good hands and timing.

5. I am looking forward to celebrating Christmas! This would be my first Christmas as a wife! The hubby and I are going to hunt for our first Christmas tree soon. :)

6. A super random factoid about me is I have my first taste of beer and vodka when I was 28 years old.

7. I want to make a blueberry cheesecake and roast a chicken with vegetables and herbs!

[A] Abundance mentality/mindset

Fill in the Blank Friday - Likes & loves

Belated post for my Fill in the Blank Friday series.

1. I like to stay around and with people who appreciate me and make me extremely contented, at ease, and happy, i.e. my husband, parents-in-law, best buddies. They make me laugh from the bottom of my heart.

2. A life goal of mine is to be a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM) but still be able to contribute financially to our household income.

3. The last thing you would ever expect me to like (even though I secretly do) is camwhoring. Do you believe it? LOL!

4. Some wise words that I love are quotes from famous authors. This is my current favorite, "Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness." - Frank Tyger

5. Most mornings you will find me sipping coffee while browsing through Facebook statuses and reading blogs I'm following.

6. Right now I am super into reading pregnancy blogs. Baby lust, you know. I really need some baby dust. ;)

7. Right now I am super over about trying to be and do everything because it doesn't make sense to cause myself stressed out while doing so.

2

Fill in the Blank Friday - Do, Did, Done

Belated post for my Fill in the Blank Friday series.

1. Something I swore I'd never do, but have ended up doing anyway is lusting after "affordable luxuries", i.e. branded handbags; my current favorite being Coach.

2. Something I've always wanted to do is to be my own boss!

3. Something I have absolutely no desire to ever do is any form of adrenaline-pumping activities, e.g. white water rafting, jungle trekking, and whatever activities that demand extreme physical efforts. NO WAY.

4. The best thing I ever did was planning our own wedding. We managed to do it within budget and didn't start our life as husband and wife in debt. Note: Wedding in Malaysia is an expensive affair, of which we refuse to succumb to temptations whatsoever. Wedding is but for ONE DAY, marriage is for a LIFETIME.

5. When it comes to trying new things, I am and can be quite reluctant; well, it all depends on what those new things are. I'm a sucker for familiar and comfortable routines. Hahaha!

6. One thing I've never done is going topless during beach holidays, but hmmm... it's an idea worth considering, especially if we have a little private beach stretch for ourselves. :P

7. My favorite thing to do is spending every remaining hours of the day with my hubby. We work and drive separately (Malaysian traffic is insane) for almost 14 hours a day (Monday to Friday); so we try to have dinner together as much as we can.

Fill in the Blank Friday - Relax & No Stress

Belated post for my Fill in the Blank Friday series.

1. One thing I plan on doing to relax this weekend is to snuggle in bed with the husband, with him sleeping away like a baby; and I, reading the book that I'm currently reading - Mockingjay, the final book of The Hunger Games.

2. A big pet peeve of mine is when people park their car BEHIND my car (we call it double-parking in Malaysia) without leaving any contact details on their dashboard. I have no way to alert the car owner except pressing my car honk repeatedly until the idiot appears. It's fine if they leave some form of contact, at least I can give them a courteous call and tell them I need to move my car.

3. I am really loving the idea of having my own baby next year. I'm not pregnant yet but the idea of venturing into motherhood is getting more and more real each day. :)

4. The rain is calming if I'm safe and sound at home, and it's kind of a nuisance if I'm driving on the road.

5. My favorite girly indulgence is my weekly home body spa using the Galvanic Spa kit, ageLOC Body Spa gel, and Dermatic Effects Lotion.

6. A song I always get stuck in my head is none. I'm not a song person, I forget them pretty quickly.

7.  The best cure for stress is reading. I will just grab a book, sit or lie down, and read.

Fill in the Blank Friday - Randomness

Today's post for my Fill in the Blank Friday series.

  1. My favorite flower is and shall forever be, the sunflower. I've always love gazing at these tall, cheerful yellow flowers with a seedy face, especially on bright, sunny days in the garden. Sorrow will turn into joy miraculously and spontaneously! Sunflowers always direct their face towards the sunlight. This inspires me to look to the bright side of whichever gloomy situation. Ain't this a sweet way Mother Nature uses to remind us to be happy? From my previous blog post back in 2010.

  2. You should never talk about too much personal stuff to people whom you think are friends. Sometimes they might use back what you say against you; sometimes they are in fact, snitches; and most of the time, they fantasize their own assumptions that lead to ugly misunderstanding. I have had my fair share of such misfortune this quarter of the year. I'm still recuperating.

  3. My favorite discovery as of late is that we are sharing things online for two main reasons: connection and expression. Results are from the 2012 Global State of Mobile Etiquette and Digital Sharing survey by Intel.

Top online sharing pet peeves: Profanity; shorthand language; mundane details; inappropriate info share with co-workers; poor spelling and grammar; explicit photos; constant complaining; controversial topics; bragging; private info; sharing only about one subject.

Top reasons why people are sharing online: It's a habit; to share what cannot be shared openly in other settings; to make new friends; so that other people can learn more about me; to find other people with common interests or hobbies; to keep others informed about what is going on in my life; to express my opinions or make a statement; to feel connected with others; to stay informed with what others are doing.

The most popular places around the world people are sharing: Vacation; eating a meal with others; sporting event; hospital; bathroom; child's activity; concert venue; movie theater; airplane; wedding; gym; on a date; religious venue; business meeting; funeral.

  4. This fall you will probably find me wearing ummm... there's no fall in Malaysia, so I will still be wearing my normal day-to-day attire, mainly a simple top, my favorite jeans, and flats.

  5. I wish I were sitting at a hair saloon, getting my hair trimmed, and pampering myself with hair and scalp treatment. This is a much-needed and long overdue treat for myself.

  6. My favorite TV show currently is surprisingly, none. I don't watch TV shows. I watch movies at the cinema.

  7. This weekend I want to get the Oktoberfest 2012 limited edition 1L Tiger mug! My hubby and I have the 2010 and 2011 mugs. :)

Fill in the Blank Friday - Lasts

This is my second post for the Fill in the Blank Friday series.

Last week's blanks were all about "firsts", this week's blanks are all about "lasts". I like this idea!

My "lasts"
  1. The last thing I ate was rojak buah and bak kut teh!

  2. The last time I went to the beach was in June for our honeymoon in Da Nang, Vietnam.

  3. My last vacation was a road trip with my parents-in-law and hubby to my hubby's hometown and my father-in-law's hometown. I really enjoyed traveling with them. :)

  4. The last place I drove was my house.

  5. The last song I listened to was a Catholic mass' hymn called 'Betapa Hatiku'.

  6. The last thing I watched on TV was Martin Yan's cooking show about bamboo shoots and pandas at Shenzen, China.

  7. The last time I said "I love you" was I can't remember. :P

Fill in the Blank Friday - Firsts

I found out about Lauren, author of The Little Things We Do from her blog post about her birth story.

I'm very impressed with her spirit and positivity, especially the part where she said, "My one suggestion for having a natural birth? The power of positive thinking." This is a very strong conviction and encouragement for me as I prepare myself for my first pregnancy early next year. :)

Then, I found out about her fill in the blank friday series. So, here I am! This is my first post of the series, of which I will submit my link here.

Quoting Lauren, "Hope you make some more "firsts" over your weekend!"

My "firsts"
  1. My first memory was about being a naughty little girl who "dumped" an entire bottle of baby powder all over my baby sister just because I wanted to smell how nice she would be. My mom was horrified. :D

  2. My first love was my husband. We were married three months ago. :) Spending time with him every day is the best investment I have ever made in my life.

  3. My very first favorite color was and still is, yellow - the color of sunshine, sunflower, happiness, and bliss!

  4. The first time I really felt like a "grown-up" was when my husband, then boyfriend, proposed to me during Christmas last year. I was like: Okay, so we are getting married, next thing in line would be parenthood. So yeah, that's kinda force me to "grow up" with a real purpose in life.

  5. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check my mobile phone to know what time it is and whether I can still nap for a few more minutes before I head to the bathroom.

  6. The first CD (cassette tape, record, etc...) I ever bought was a Hong Kong singer, Faye Wong's cassette tape. However, I have given all her tapes away when I was studying in the university many years ago.

  7. My first car was and still is, a Malaysian Proton Saga 1.3L (M-line), of which I affectionately called WUQkie. Why? Here's the post.

I'm a Blue

I took the test called Your Personality Color and found out that I'm a Blue. The description below suits me very well.

Connect with people

Blues are motivated by intimacy. You seek to genuinely connect with others, and need to be understood and appreciated.

You are sensitive to the needs of others and caring with your close circle of friends. While you are friendly and sociable, you prefer the company of your own close group of friends.

Whatever or whomever you commit to is your sole (and soul) focus. You love to serve and give of yourself freely in order to nurture others' lives.

You love to be needed but one of your lessons is to learn to love yourself first - you live from your heart and are always busy putting the needs of others first.

Loyal, trustworthy & responsible

You are a loyal friend, employer, and employee. You are conservative, reliable, and trustworthy.

You make a loyal and faithful marriage partner and you are an honest, trustworthy, and sincere friend. You form strong attachments, but risk a tendency to become codependent.

You are quite trusting of others although you are very wary in the beginning until you are sure of the other person. At the same time, you also have a deep need to be trusted.

You are genuine and sincere, and you take your responsibilities seriously.

Think before act

You are not impulsive or spontaneous. You always think before you speak and act and do everything at your own pace in your own time. You take time to process and share your feelings.

You appear to be confident and self-controlled, but may be hiding your vulnerable side.

Sentimental & emotional

You are generally fairly even-tempered, unless your emotions take over. Then you can become either moody and over-emotional, or cool and indifferent.

You are sentimental and love things from the past. You can be quite emotional, aware of others feelings, and sensitive to the moods of others.

You can be too cautious and worry about every little thing. If reacting negatively, you are prone to self-pity.

 Routine is everything

You can be rigid. You like to stick to what is familiar to you and it is hard to sway you from your path. You stubbornly do things your way even if there is a better way.

You need to have direction and order in your living and work spaces - untidiness and unpredictability overwhelm you.

Deep need for peace & harmony

You have a deep need for peace and harmony in your everyday life. You don't like having your feathers ruffled.

You compare the present to the past, looking to authority figures, parents, bosses or other leaders, to support your beliefs about the world.

You have a thirst for knowledge in order to gain wisdom and appear knowledgeable in whatever area interests you.

You are spiritual or religious with a high degree of devotion to family, God, or other causes that are important to you.

Your deepest need is to find inner peace and truth, to live your life according to your own ideals and beliefs without having to change your inflexible viewpoint of life to satisfy others.

7 songs with stories

Christina Perri: Jar of Hearts

Getting our hearts broken is a blessing in disguise. It saves us from the wrong one before we meet the right one. I dedicate this song to all whose hearts have been broken before by people who don't appreciate our love.

And who do you think you are
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

******************************

Demi Lovato: Skyscraper

I dedicate this song to all those who have failed in one way or another but have risen up and still stand tall!

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper!
Like a skyscraper!

******************************

Adele: Someone Like You

I dedicate this song to sore losers who don't know how to appreciate what they have in the first place. Unlike Adele, I don't want you to find someone like me.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

******************************

Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine: Stereo Hearts

I dedicate this song to lovers who are dedicated in finding ways to make their other half happy, always!

My heart's a stereo
It beats for you, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every note

Make me your radio

Turn me up when you feel low
This melody was meant for you
So sing along to my stereo

******************************

Lady Antebellum: Just A Kiss

I dedicate this song to all who have found love in its initial stage. Enjoy the courtship while it lasts. If you're still treading the more-than-just-friends zone, may you find true love waiting.

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
And I don't want to mess this thing up
No, I don't want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life
So baby, I'm alright with just a kiss goodnight

******************************

Queen: It's A Hard Life

I dedicate this song to all couples! Love is not just about emotions running high. When it comes to long-term, it's a lot of work. :)

It's a hard life
To be true lovers together
To love and live forever in each others hearts
It's a long hard fight
To learn to care for each other
To trust in one another right from the start
When you're in love

******************************

Christina Perri: A Thousand Years

I dedicate this song to him. I know we'll go on strong for many more years to come. :)

I have died everyday
Waiting for you
Darlin' don't be afraid,
I have loved you for a
Thousand years
I'll love you for a
Thousand more

And all along I believed
I would find you
Time has brought
Your heart to me
I have loved you for a
Thousand years
I'll love you for a
Thousand more

What's His Dating Nationality?

Source: Cleo magazine, November 2011, pp. 146-150

To guys, which type are you? To girls, which type is your guy? Read on.

The Italian Stallion... is a tireless workhouse. His career is and always has been his number one priority. He pursues his financial ambitions with unrelenting diligence (which is good), enjoying his freedom to roam the land. Anything that slows him down is dealt with promptly and callously... including women (which is bad). If you date an Italian stallion, be prepared for cancelled dinners, forgotten anniversaries and short but very painful arguments. The Stallion is rude, crass and curt. Until you become his number one, he'll not let you get in the way of his wild and free dreams.

To win him... you've to tame him. But, like breaking a wild horse, breaking an Italian Stallion takes time and patience. You can try to force him through threats, blackmail and pouts, but there's little chance you'll succeed. No, the only way you'll ever ride an Italian Stallion into submission is if you do so gently.

******************************

The Latin Flirt... is almost always in love with someone or the other, whether his heart is with her or not. You'll find him checking out the babes at clubs or chatting up the ladies at cafes, never really alone, but never really taken, either. Even with one woman on each arm, the Latin Flirt seems quite comfortable studying the anatomy of a third. However, in The Love Diet, Mabel Iam explains that the Latin man's reputation of being a super flirt is one that they actually have trouble dealing with. "The Latin man is supposedly always ready to jump into bed, but this reputation doesn't do them any favors when they're trying to find a real partner, not just have a little fun," says Iam. "In general, having a family and raising children are top priorities for Latino men."

To win him... "Don't get flustered when he looks at you," says Iam. "Men have a way of fixating on certain body parts (breasts, rear, legs), and it's especially pronounced in Latino men." Let the Latin Flirt works his charm on you - after all, that's why you're interested in him. The way to win him over is to demonstrate that you're a woman who are open to long-term relationship without coming on too strong.

******************************

The French Romantic... is, of course, full of hogwash. His sweet nothings will make you blush and, long after he's gone, you'll lie awake at night thinking of the things he said and did to you. If you complain that men don't buy flowers anymore, that they don't sing or write love letters anymore, then you haven't dated a French Romantic yet. The French Romantic comes from the land of Chanel No. 5 and Givenchy, and believes in candlelit dinners, sensual massages and nice presents. He'll make you feel more special than any other type of man, but beware: the French are not without their flaws. He's very fashionable and highly individualistic - don't expect him to change his bad habits for you.

To win him... you've to let yourself be romanced. How? By becoming more French-like yourself. "If you strip away the stereotypes and contradictions about her, one of the fundamental qualities associated with the French girl is her sense of self-possession," says Debra Ollivier in Entre Nous: A Woman's Guide to Finding Her Inner French Girl. "She's entirely, unequivocally self-contained." So be yourself and let him do the calling. Don't fall for his loveliness too soon, or he'll quickly lose interest.

******************************

The Oriental Baby... needs to be mollycoddled. With dimply smiles and innocent eyes, he's a hopeless devotee of any woman who takes an interest in him. True, he may not be able to anticipate your needs very well, but that's precisely why you like him, isn't it? Oriental Babies are hapless fellows when it comes to love and relationships. They neither understand a woman's basic need to fight or make up, nor the intricate power struggles that take place between men and women in love. They need to be told what to do and how to do it - don't expect them to read your mind and know what you want, because they're incapable of such sophistication in their relationships. Their adoration of you is pure and unadulterated, and all they want is the same in return.

To win him... you've to take care of him. Mother him, even. Iron his clothes, cook his meals, run his errands. The Oriental Baby equates love with these things and, much as some of you may hate to admit it, there are women who think the same.

******************************

The English Bore... needs to be listened to. His is a history of conquering, colonizing pompousness, and he really does believe that he stands head-and-shoulders above everyone else. His ego is enormous, as is his mouth, and you probably like him because he spouts so much apparent wisdom and eloquence that he must be right - how could he not be? The English Bore wins women over by wit, intellect and disinterestedness. He loves the sound of his voice, and is of the opinion that his opinions are the only ones that matter. Unfortunately, there's only so much a woman can listen to from one man, and eventually, his charming chatter does become a boring babble. Still, if Victoria Beckham an put up with it for the sake of David's purse strings, why not you, right?

To win him... you've to indulge him. Laugh at his banal wisecracks. Pay attention to his wise nuggets. Wonder at his superior intellect. Let him think he's master of your universe, and he'll be more than pleased to give you diamonds in exchange for your adulation.

******************************

The Spanish Matador... is a cliched hero. He loves the 15th century ideals of dueling for the women he loves because he doesn't believe in easy love. He wants, no, needs to fight for you! Of course, in these modern times, fist-fights over ladies are less common. Society has evolved, as Valentina Artsrunik points out in How to Flirt and Be Seductive, "While the primitive male used spears, and later swords, to demonstrate chivalry and win the heart of the woman of his choice," says Artsrunik, "the contemporary man resorts to wit, sense of humor, a fancy car or a large wallet, career prospects, stock portfolio and so on."

To win him... you've to play a complicated game of cat-and-mouse and let him go to extremes to 'win' you, even though you may have been long ready to drop your pants and make babies with him. Play hard to get. Play the prey. "The most famous courtesans of all times knew well how to capitalize on being the 'prey'," says Artsrunik in her book.

******************************

The American Hero... needs no introduction. Hollywood has done a pretty good job at marketing the American Hero to the world - if there's one culture that we're more familiar with than our own, it's his. American Heroes believe in gender equality and all its virtues so if he ever comes to a woman's rescue, then that's an American Hero at work. This shouldn't be confused as a sign of love, because it's more about his principles than anything else. Unlike the Spanish Matador, the American Hero will fight for your rights because he's a hero and not necessarily because he's into you.

To win him... you must be able to stand on your own two feet. The American Hero rescues damsels in distress every day so to be someone special to him, you must be able to fend for yourself - that's how you differentiate yourself from the other women he rescues, and in doing so, you gain his respect and affection. Dating an American Hero is a very liberating experience because he relates to you on such equal terms - try it!

******************************

The Scandinavian Stone... has a cold, frigid persona that attracts only a select few women. Either through bad experience or an inhospitable upbringing, the Scandinavian Stone has come to regard women with suspicion and contempt. Personal relationships are few and far in between. He doesn't have more than one or two friends, if any at all. And love, as far as he's concerned, is a myth - there's only a biological imperative to procreate, nothing more. If you didn't know any better, you'd call a Scandinavian Stone a heartless, loveless creep. But that's not nature's way. Everyone has the capacity to love and care for others. The question is, how do you get the Scandinavian Stone to love and care for you.

To win him... you've to flirt - it's the only way you're going to get through. You can't 'break' through that fortress around his heart. You've to take it apart, brick-by-brick. It may take months or even years, but with persistence, you'll get there. "Flirting builds rapport," explain Ron Louis and David Copeland in How To Succeed With Men. "Having rapport creates a a bond. The bond creates the opening for a date, and a date can become the foundation for your relationship."

******************************

The Jamaican Gypsy... is, at his core, fun on legs. Sometimes jobless, often broke, he leads the life of a drifter without a care for the future or past: the present is all that matters. No money? No problem - he'll wash a car or two to earn his lunch, and paint someone's roof for dinner. His kinds aren't the most secure of boyfriends and he might not even be able to put a ring on it! However, some girls admire their ability to live in such reckless abandon and are able to laugh about it. Optimism is infectious that way.

To win him... you've to convince him to commit to you. The reason he's able to lead a life of near-zero responsibility is because he makes sure he never takes on more than he can afford to lose. With no loans, no credit cards and no dependents, the Jamaican Gypsy is free... and he knows it.

Interesting article right? My special someone is a blend between The English Bore and The Oriental Baby. Cute!

So, what happened in June 2011? Plenty! :D

1. Exciting events about work: Company rebranding & new office!

2. Gotten a very thoughtful and practical birthday present from David, i.e. D'Fujicool Car Tinting TK-300 for my car.

3. Weekend trip to Sg. Klah Hot Springs (Sungkai). Here's my blog post: 10 Things To Do at Sg. Klah Hot Springs (Sungkai).

4. TWO birthday dinners! The first one was at Finnegan's Mid Valley and the second one was at Bulldog Pub KL.

5. Gotten a manicure-pedicure treatment. I had glittery pink fingernails (unfortunately, the coat came off one week later) and pretty gray toenails. So I did another round of express coating at another nail parlour. I chose pearly white. :D

6. Participated in Nokia's World Biggest Angry Birds Playground. David was the 134th participant and I was 135th out of the 2030 people who joined the record breaking attempt to smash the Guinness World Records™ for the Most People Playing in a Mobile Phone Game Relay!

7. We took the first step in our wedding planning - filled and submitted the Catholic Marriage Preparation Course (CMPC) form. The course will run for 7 consecutive Sundays starting 24 July 2011. :)

8. Sent my first article to be published on Blogcritics. The title is "Things I Do to Keep My Blogging Passion Alive".

9. Cooked a simple dinner with much zeal and love :P Here it is: Simple Chicken Tomato Spaghetti.

10. Attended a family function, i.e. David's grandparents' 60th (diamond jubilee) wedding anniversary in Terengganu.

Looking forward to more exciting happenings down the road. :D
