Top 17 Dishes that I Enjoyed Eating (and where to find them)

This bowl of curry beehoon with cockles is one of the best curry noodles that I have eaten in ages. The ones I have tried are subpar most of the times.

Location: Restoran Pakka Lok at Jalan Utama, Taman Puchong Utama

This is brown rice nasi lemak with one whole hard-boiled egg served on top of the rice.

Location: The Loaf, Pavilion KL

This is a very interesting dish I tried during a trip to Taiping. It's called Nyonya Ulam Chicken Salad. It's pretty much carb-less and packed with protein from the chicken breast slices. The fresh chopped local herbs add texture, crunch, and freshness to the dish too. It's truly satisfying!

Location: Raintree Kitchen Restaurant in Taiping Sentral Mall

I usually won't order wantan mee because I don't like the stringy wantan noodles. However, this bowl of wantan mee soup that I tried during a trip to Taiping is rather different. It has more ingredients such as lean pork slices and mushroom slices on top of wontons and char siew slices. The soup doesn't taste like the typical wantan mee soup too.

Location: Medan Selera Tai Hu at Taman Tasik Taiping

If you know me, you know that I love lui cha (or lei cha). It's a vegetarian dish with an assortment of chopped leafy vegetables, beans, tofu, and peanuts. The way to eat lui cha is by pouring a mug of the green lui cha paste/soup into the bowl of ingredients, mix them well, and eat. The end product isn't very photo-friendly (imagine a bowl of green goop hahaha), so I have decided not to put up the photo here.

Location: T42 at Jalan 17/155c, Bukit Jalil (same row as Klinik Medipulse Bukit Jalil)

This is Nasi Ikan Patin Masak Tempoyak. Tempoyak is a fermented durian paste made from overripe durian flesh. I super love the taste of tempoyak so this dish is a gem!

Location: Richiamo Coffee Ara Damansara (below Kindlehouse Dental Clinic at Eve Suite)

The focus of this photo should be the Nasi Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api. I'm a big fan of masak lemak dishes too.

Location: Richiamo Coffee Ara Damansara (below Kindlehouse Dental Clinic at Eve Suite)

This is nasi campur with some of my favorite Malay style dishes - daun kayu masak lemak, kari daging lembu, and tempeh.

Location: R&R Gambang (heading to Pantai Timur)

This is Kuching Kolok Mee Red Sauce. The amount of the different types of meat is good. I love the packaging too, it reminds me of my childhood when my late dad bought breakfast for us on weekends.

Location: Nam Chuan Coffee Shop on FoodPanda

It was a chilly day that day, so my colleagues and I decided to have piping hot Pan Mee soup for lunch. We also ordered Tau Fu Fah as our after-meal dessert.

Location: Chun Hiong Coffee Shop, Lorong Ara Kiri 2, Bangsar

I have blogged about this bowl of delicious Sundae Gukbap (Korean blood sausage soup with rice).

Location: Lee Ga Korean Noodles Restaurant at Desa Sri Hartamas

I have also blogged about this amazing Bamboo Mutton Briyani.

Location: Restoran Kannaas Bamboo Masalla Briyani at Taman Kinrara Seksyen 3, Puchong

Here's a comforting bowl of home-cooked Bak Kut Teh. It may not be as flavorful as those cooked by BKT sifus, but I'm proud of my dish. Hehe.

Location: My house

Korean BBQ feast. I have blogged about this wholesome spread of scrumptious K-BBQ meal.

Location: Garage Original Korean BBQ at Bandar Puchong Jaya

Now this is an interesting dish. It's called Mee Champa (but I opted for beehoon). It came with beef, tendon, and tripe. I absolutely love this dish!

Location: Dapur Champa @ Kitchen Connect Bangsar on GrabFood

I have blogged about Yukgaejang - spicy beef and vegetable soup.

Location: Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant

And this, my friends, is a bowl of delightful Nyonya Laksa.

Location: Baba Low's 486 at Lorong Kurau, Bangsar

Hakka Lui Cha @ Puffs Garden, Damansara Uptown

I'm adding Hakka Lui Cha @ Puffs Garden to my Lui Cha collection.

Address: 15, Jalan SS21/37, Damansara Uptown (if you know where's the famous Village Park Nasi Lemak restaurant is, you will be able to see Puffs Garden)
.

This is one of the best that I have had so far! There are three types of green leafy vegetables, including my favorite cekur manis and chives! The rest of the ingredients are cabbage, long beans, fried tofu, pickled radish, peanuts, and sesame seeds.

I don't mind having this bowl of lui cha for lunch every day! :D

Hakka Lui Cha @ Restoran Ho Boh, Taman Kinrara

I'm adding Hakka Lui Cha @ Restoran Ho Boh (河婆擂茶馆) to my Lui Cha collection.

Address: No. 21A, Ground Floor, Jalan TK 1/11A, Taman Kinrara, Seksyen 1, Jalan Puchong.

When I order lui cha, I usually choose brown rice for a healthier, fiber-packed meal. However, I should have ordered the large version. The small one is not that filling. :D

By the way, the flat greenish pancake looking thing is actually Lui Cha Fried Egg. It tasted so-so.

Organic Lui Cha @ Garden Recipe, Paradigm Mall

I'm adding Organic Lui Cha @ Garden Recipe, Paradigm Mall to my Lui Cha collection. Look at those little trays of chopped green leafy vegetables, tofu, and peanuts! They are so pretty!

Honestly, I'm absolutely and hopelessly in love with this Hakka dish!

Hakka Lui Cha is definitely my choice for a yummy, perfect fiber-and-protein-loaded meal!

Five Colors High Energy Lei Cha from BMS Organics @ Damansara Uptown

Five Colors High Energy Lei Cha

BMS Organics has this concept called LOHAS. The word stands for "Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability" which means living a lifestyle that is healthy and environmentally friendly. The term has been cleverly translated to "Le Huo" in Chinese which means living happily.

For LOHAS Lei Cha, they use raw vegetables (chopped cucumber, carrot, long beans, purple cabbage, radish, leafy greens, black sesame seeds, and organic cashew nuts. Normal lei cha is usually served with chopped cooked leafy vegetables, fried tofu, and roasted peanuts.

Also, at BMS Organics, you will be served with a complimentary bowl of soup and two spirulina tablets before your order arrives. Interesting, right?

Find out more about LOHAS food on their website: http://www.bmsorganics.com/

Hawker Food @ Restoran Hoong Fook, Sri Petaling

It was our first time in Sri Petaling and we went for hawker food at Restoran Hoong Fook, somewhere along the Jalan Merah Caga area. Here's its location on Foursquare.

Lui Cha

I had Lui Cha, one of my favorite choices for a healthy lunch. This bowl of fiber goodness consists of chopped four-angled beans (kacang botol), green leafy vegetables, cabbage, dried radish, bean curds, and roasted groundnuts.

The lui cha tea paste wasn't too strong to my taste, just how I like it. Some hawker stalls' lui cha paste has a very strong minty flavor which I find repulsive.

Find out more about my lui cha adventure!

Spicy Pork Noodles

Being a spicy food junkie, David had Spicy Pork Noodles. The broth's fiery red color looked menacingly spicy but it was surprisingly tasty and our tongues weren't numbed too much.

Check out pork noodles at Medan Selera Taman Desa.

E Garden Recipe @ SSTwo Mall

SSTwo Mall is one of the newest neighborhood malls in Petaling Jaya. There isn't much crowd even on weekends and if I want to have a really peaceful and satisfying lunch, I choose to visit this mall.

I heard from a friend about good, healthy meals at E Garden Recipe, so I brought my sister for lunch on Saturday.

Address: LG-55 SSTwo Mall
If you're not familiar with the mall's layout, you'll take quite some time to find this restaurant. To make it easy, walk out from the mall towards the middle open-air flea market section. Look for Secret Recipe and you'll see E Garden Recipe in the opposite direction.

The moment I set foot in the restaurant, its bright, airy, homey, and welcoming ambiance drew my immediate attention. There was no crowd, no rowdy kids, and everything was fresh and tidy. Thumbs up for superb and comfortable dine-in environment.

The next thing that caught my attention was the menu book. E Garden Recipe is all about eating and living healthy. They specialize in preparing healthy dishes from organic beans, brown rice, and mostly vegetarian-oriented ingredients. For meat dishes, I couldn't recall if they serve red meat but they do use chicken and salmon.

By the way, this is a halal restaurant. So, no pork is served.

Ginger Extract Soup with Brown Rice Mee Sua

If you love ginger in your meals, you'll love this bowl of deliciously tangy soup with carrot julienne, spinach, black fungus slices, and an egg. The brown rice mee sua is surprisingly soft to the bite and delicious too. It's priced at RM12.90 at the moment. You'll need to add 10% service charge to your bill.

I did a quick search on the medicinal properties of ginger and found some useful information here and here.

Lei Cha with Brown Rice

Lei Cha or Lui Cha (depends on dialect) is my favorite "cleansing" meal because its main ingredients are chopped leafy vegetables, beans, tofu, and peanuts.

Look at these mini trays of vegetables and stuff!

Clockwise: A bowl of brown rice garnished with chopped Chinese parsley, chopped leafy vegetables, roasted tofu, another mini tray of chopped leafy vegetables, roasted peanuts, chopped chai po (sweetened radish), cabbage and carrot julienne, and chopped long beans.

Middle: A pot of lei cha paste and white sesame seeds mixed with hot water.

This whole set is priced at RM13.90 at the moment.
You'll need to add 10% service charge to your bill.

There are a few ways to enjoy this bowl of healthy, delicious meal and reap the most benefits out of it.

1. Eat everything separately, like your own mini buffet.

2.
Mix the ingredients (vegetables and stuff) with the rice; drink the lei cha paste separately.

3.
Mix everything (vegetables and stuff and lei cha paste) in one bowl.

For me , I love to mix everything together. What's your style?

A good lunch indeed on a Saturday! I would love to visit E Garden Recipe again.

Lui Cha @ S10, Oasis Food Court, Mid Valley

Lui Cha lovers will get a kick out of this dish served at Oasis Food Court, Mid Valley. Look out for Stall No. 10 (S10). :)

Here are two previous links that I found on my blog about Lui Cha:

Eat for the sake of health

Yes! That's my motto nowadays. Eat, but not for the sake of eating. Eat for the sake of health.

So, here are some good food photos again... after 2 weeks of silence, I guess.

This is lunch: Pork Mee Sua Soup from the same stall that sells Loh Shu Fun that I've posted previously. The soup is quite clear and there are pork innards, e.g. small intestine and liver besides pork strips and minced pork balls but I opted not to swallow everything.

Then, at night, my sister and I went to a nice Hakka restaurant, Ying Ker Lou at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara that serves authentic Hakka dishes. I'm a Hakka and I love Hakka dishes.

Here's my Lui Cha Rice. I opted for brown rice (healthier because brown rice is complex carbo, not like its "contemporary" - white rice, which is simple carbo). So, add RM1. The portion is considered big for me. The good thing about this dish is that it's mostly fiber and only a little bit of oil from the fried dried shrimps. Nuts and tofu are high in protein. Most importantly, it's my favorite Hakka dish!

My sis have this: Steamed Pork with Squid Strips. It comes with white rice but you can opt for brown rice with an additional charge of RM1. Not bad, springy and delicious.

Crazy over some kind of Hakka RICE...

I love Hakka cuisine. I've gone "crazy" about Lui Cha or Thunder Tea Rice ever since I acquire the taste for this healthy dish. Since I'm born into a Hakka dad + Cantonese mum family and my late daddy was a good oriental cuisine chef, I have always enjoyed good food.

Well... I'm not doing a food blog here, so I might just get this post linked to SOME (not all, obviously) websites that provide nice reviews.
I have tried Lui Cha at SS2 (the one mentioned in the link above), Ampang Jaya, Kelana Jaya (SS6/12), Mid Valley, and Taman Megah. I don't remember the coffee shops' names but I still remember how to get to those places.

Anyway, it's worth trying! I mean, the dish.

P.S.: My Lui Cha collection!
