Movie: Paranormal Activity 3

It Runs in the Family

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) is a supernatural horror movie. It's the third movie of the Paranormal Activity franchise and the storyline serves as a prequel, set in 1988, and it explains the origin of the malevolent supernatural entity in the first two movies.

Synopsis: 1988, a young Katie (this character is first introduced as an adult in Paranormal Activity) lives with her younger sister Kristi (this character is first introduced as an adult in Paranormal Activity 2), her mother Julie, and Julie's boyfriend Dennis. When Kristi starts to claim that she's talking to an imaginary friend named Toby, strange things begin to happen in their house.

"It runs in the family" is a spine-tingling tagline. The reason behind violent supernatural occurrences in this family across all three movies is due to a deal made with a demon for wealth or power by forfeiting the life of the firstborn son in the family line.

Both Katie and Kristi are troubled by the same demon since young. Ironically, it also runs in the family whereby the males in all three movies - Micah (adult Katie's boyfriend), Dan (adult Kristi's husband), and Dennis (young Katie and Kristi's stepfather) has the same "hobby" of using video cameras and camcorders in the house.

So, do expect the expected shooting style - handheld camera shots and angles, night recordings, angry demon causing havoc caught in action on tape, etc. However, there are more unexpected scare-you-silly moments in this third movie and you'll laugh at yourself when you realize you just squealed too loud. But, you'll be relieved soon after because most people squeal and the entire cinema erupts in laughter after that.

The kids are good, especially the young one, Kristi. I don't know how they do it but they act naturally and that adds realism to the footage. There are less violent scenes compared to the first two movies, which is quite a relief for me.

So, if you've watched the first two movies, you won't want to miss this one. Go scare yourself soon!
