Movie: The Expandables (2010)

Choose your weapon.

The Expandables (2010), directed by Sylvester Stallone is an action movie that ensembles quite a number of prominent action movie stars.

A band of highly skilled mercenaries called the "Expandables", led by Ross (Sylvester Stallone) is hired by Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) to infiltrate an island called Vilena and to get rid of its useless dictator, General Garza (David Garza), a puppet behind James Monroe (Eric Roberts), a greedy businessman.

Once the mission begins, Ross' team which consists of Christmas (Jason Statham), Yang (Jet Li), Caesar (Terry Crews), and Road (Randy Couture), meets with local rebel Sandra and find themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. Sandra refuses to leave the island although her life is in danger. Ross, unable to forget her, must choose to either walk away or attempt a suicidal rescue mission that might save his own miserable soul and life.

This movie reminds of The Losers (2010) and The A-Team (2010). All three movies have these characteristics:

1. Pumped with testosterone and adrenaline - action, action, and more action! You get to watch multiple car chases-and-crashes, explosions and blasts everywhere, non-stop gunfights, etc - you know, those usual yet crucial key elements for action movies.

2. There's a band of brothers - skillful mercenaries. And, they got issues with loyalty and trust versus betrayal and deceit. Oh well, that's for the sake of drama.

3. A sole, tough female character. The Losers: Aisha (Zoe Saldana); The A-Team: Sosa (Jessica Biel); The Expandables: Sandra (Gisele Itié). Ooo la la.

4. Get ready for comic relief. The Losers: So-so, at least not too lame; The A-Team: Brilliantly paced at the right moment and it helps to provide good paces amidst intense action sequences; The Expandables: It backfires and makes some of the characters sound kinda lame and not so macho anymore. :S

If you're dying to watch action movies and yearn to get some kick from watching them, I'd say The Expandables will fulfill your very needs. Have fun! :)
