Movie: Devil (2010)

Bad Things Happen For A Reason

Devil (2010) is a supernatural thriller based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, who's also one of the producers.

This movie has a very simple plot: Five strangers -- three men and two women with guilty pasts -- a
mechanic (Logan Marshall-Green), a security guard (Bokeem Woodbine), a salesman (Geoffrey Arend), an old woman (Jenny O'Hara), and a young woman (Bojana Novakovic) -- are trapped in an elevator and begin to die one by one. One of them is the Devil.

The twist comes at the end of the movie -- the Devil/villain is revealed as one of the group who's thought to have died in the beginning of the movie.

Here's an excerpt of an interesting review from IMDb:

"The movie addresses the notion that nothing is ever coincidental, especially if powerful negative forces like the devil decide to walk the earth and claim a few souls, while at the same time having fun toying with their prey. The real draw is how visually arresting this movie is in capturing fear from within close quarters.
The strength of the movie lies in Shyamalan's story, which is deceptively simple, yet highly effective in weaving all the plot threads together, and the linking up of the characters so crucial in providing a satisfying finale."

This movie ends with an apt quote, narrated by one the characters in the movie: "If the Devil is real, God must also be real."

So, do I recommend this movie? I'd say, yes. Give M. Night Shyamalan's story a chance if you're a fan of supernatural thrillers. :)
