Movie: Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

All Bets Are Off

After watching Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), here comes Resident Evil: Extinction (2007).

Synopsis: The outbreak of the deadly T-virus in Raccoon City has spread and destroyed the world, turning mankind into flesh-eating zombies and land into barren desserts.

Alice (Milla Jovovich) travels alone in the desserts for years to avoid Umbrella Corporation. While traveling through the Nevada Desert, Alice meets a convoy of human survivors led by Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and her fellow survivors in Detroit five years ago, Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J.
The convoy decides to travel to Las Vegas for fuel and food supply before heading to Alaska, an area believed to be isolated and uncontaminated.

Meanwhile, in an underground facility of the Umbrella Corporation, Dr. Isaacs continues his research of domesticating zombies with the anti-virus and cloning Alice to produce a cure.

Things become ugly when Dr. Isaacs manage to track down Alice and send a hoard of super zombies after her and the convoy of human survivors. Alice must save herself and the survivors in her attempt to take down the Umbrella Corporation.

I would safely say that Extinction is a better movie compared to its prequel, Apocalypse. More emphasis is given to Milla Jovovich's superior combat skills as a superhuman against super zombies.

In Apocalypse, the emphasis on Alice is slightly diverted due to the existence of the equally skillful Jill Valentine. In Extinction, although there is another character called Claire Redfield, her existence doesn't overshadow Alice. Furthermore, Alice's superhuman abilities have developed at a geometric rate and thus she's so much tougher.

Overall, two thumbs up! I can't wait to watch Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)!

Update:
