My toddler's Bumble Bees adventure at BeeBop Circus

After my 4-year old toddler "graduated" from his last Giggly Bees class (parent & child class), he joined the Bumble Bees classes (independent class) at BeeBop Circus.

What are these bees classes? They are carefully structured developmentally appropriate thematic lessons/programs by BeeBop Circus for young children. BeeBop Circus believes in the importance of play.

Read my earlier blog post to learn more about BeeBop Circus and my toddler's adventure throughout the Giggly Bees classes: My toddler's Giggly Bees adventure at BeeBop Circus

What is BeeBop Circus?

BeeBop Circus is a play gym for children. However, it's not a play gym where your child hops and runs around aimlessly just to kill time. BeeBop Circus recognizes that all children are born with an insatiable desire to play, so they aim to help children turn play into valuable learning experiences through structured play in the gym. There are thematic lesson each week plus energizing time of tumbles, rolls, and lots of fun! BeeBop Circus is indeed the perfect place to channel all that boundless energy!

I like how each class is kept small and the children are given almost one-to-one attention as they go along the lesson/program. There are two teachers per session and they are really experienced dealing with the children's idiosyncrasies, etc.

In Bumble Bees (independent) classes, parents don't join in but we can observe our child outside the play area. There are increased movement and gymnastic tumbling challenges to encourage the children to strive for his or her personal best. At the same time, teamwork and cooperative skills with peers are introduced and enhanced as these little people become competent problem solvers.

My toddler's Giggly Bees adventure at BeeBop Circus

Toddlers. Do you have one or two or more of them at home? I have one! And he's turning four in a few months' time. Toddlers this age have some sort of energy reservoir that never seems to run out. They can play and talk non-stop the whole day. I found an excellent avenue to let him spend his energy in a good way. So, he's sent on an "adventure" at BeeBop Circus - a Movement Learning Center that offers play gym and dance classes for children!

What is BeeBop Circus?

In short, BeeBop Circus is a play gym for children. However, it's not a play gym where your child hops and runs around aimlessly just to kill time. BeeBop Circus recognizes that all children are born with an insatiable desire to play, so they aim to help parents and children turn play into valuable learning experiences.

Developed by a team of early childhood educators and fitness instructors, BeeBop Circus is a Movement Learning Center that focuses on four developmental areas: Active Bodies, Creative Minds, Morals & Values, Soft Skills.

They provide carefully structured developmentally appropriate thematic lessons/programs to develop children holistically, whereby both their left and right brain are stimulated through exploration and active movement. Each structured lesson features music, dance, colors, numbers, moral values, and physical activity. At the same time, critical life skills are developed through child-centered, non competitive approach.

BeeBop Circus Classes

First thing first, how do you know which class your child should attend? Well, every child develops at their own unique pace. So, it'd be good to give them a call and book a slot for free consultation and individual assessment to find out which class is best for your child. There's a rough guideline though, i.e. when your child can walk (usually by 12 months old and above), you can bring them to BeeBop Circus already.

For children under four years old, they can attend one of these parent & child classes: Newbees, Buzzing Bees, Giggly Bees. Depending on your child's age (this is the first deciding factor), he/she will be slotted into one of these classes.

My toddler is about to turn four years old and since he hasn't joined any BeeBop Circus class before, he's placed into Giggly Bees, the final parents & child class before he "graduates" to independent classes.

In general, parent & child classes emphasize bonding and trust between parent and child through active play. As they move up, they gain independence as children-centric activities encourage them to explore and learn.

My toddler's Giggly Bees adventure

My toddler joined Giggly Bees classes for four Saturdays. We could see significant improvement - from being aloof, disinterested, and challenging the teachers by questioning their instructions, he finally joined in the activities willingly without being asked to. He's advanced in his speech among his peers so he's always one of the first to answer the teachers' questions. By the third class, he was independent enough to go through the entire class routine without my supervision. The gym teachers were very experienced and the weekly theme with its associated activities and discussions were engaging. Highly recommended!

A day of fun and charity at BeeBop Circus' 2nd anniversary Garden Party

BeeBop Circus celebrated its second anniversary

Last Sunday, 28 February 2016, BeeBop Circus celebrated its second anniversary by hosting a fundraising Garden Party for the children in Chow Kit under the care of Yayasan Salam.

The Garden Party was styled like the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland. Children and adults were entertained by an extensive line-up of activities: Costume Runway sessions, story-telling with puppets, magic show, cupcake decorating and a range of arts and crafts to keep the little ones entertained. The crowd's favorite was the BeeBop Circus' award-winning play-gym sessions - fun gymnastic skills, chasing bubbles and playing parachute games!

My 2.5-year old little kiddo enjoyed himself so much that he kept on running and exploring every crook and cranny of the play-gym area. You should check out BeeBop Circus if you have young kids under seven years old. They will have so much to do and learn through play.

How apt is their motto: Bee-cause children learn best through play!

Fundraising Garden Party for a noble cause

There was no admission fee to the Garden Party, but the donate-as-you-wish campaign managed to raise RM2,773 in just five hours! The funds raised will be utilized to cover the cost of transport, food, clown, and presents for a memorable excursion for the children from Chow Kit.

These children are from Taska & Pusat Jagaan Baitul Amal, established by Yayasan Salam Malaysia in 2010 in the heart of Chow Kit, to support the development of comprehensive protection for children living in the vicinity. It offers free daycare services to the urban poor, with 62 children currently enrolled in their center, between 2 months to 6 years of age.

R: Shireen Yeoh, Business Development
Manager of BeeBop Circus

"When we learned that the children's only excursion in 2015 was taking a free bus to a public park because of financial constraints, we knew we had to do something to make an excursion to BeeBop Circus possible," says Shireen Yeoh, Business Development Manager of BeeBop Circus.

"Young children learn best through play. Our program provides a framework which leverages on this, allowing children to easily grasp scientific and mathematical concepts through guided play activities. The opportunity to benefit from this kind of experience should not be a novelty that is available only to the privileged," she added emphatically.

BeeBop Circus has been regularly volunteering in Chow Kit for the past year, and will be sponsoring the activities and co-organizing the excursion together with Yayasan Salam Malaysia.

L: Encik Md Ghani Ibrahim,
Chief Operating Officer of Yayasan Salam Malaysia

"We do not even have sufficient funds to meet the basic overhead costs of maintaining the center, such as rental and utilities," says Encik Md Ghani Ibrahim, Chief Operating Officer of Yayasan Salam Malaysia.

Yayasan Salam Malaysia was founded in 1997 as an independent, non-government and non-profit organization, to promote a spirit of volunteer service among Malaysians. Its activities are funded by contributions from individuals and corporate benefactors. It has many projects under its umbrella, ranging from vocational training and education to relief works locally and abroad.

Hopefully, the success of the fundraising Garden Party at BeeBop Circus will help create more awareness about the plight of the children in Chow Kit. Malaysians are generous people, and sometimes, all they need is a trustworthy cause they can easily contribute to.
