Sipping My Way Through Club Med Phuket

I’m not the type to fill my holiday schedule with activities. Just give me a quiet spot, a good view, and something nice to sip on. That's my ultimate definition of bliss.

At Club Med Phuket, that's exactly how my days unfolded. While others were doing archery or some form of sports, I was busy curating my own "itinerary": a menu of drinks, each paired with a different feeling of the day and a different shade of the sea, so to speak.

☀️ Mornings always began with coffee.

There's something about starting the day with coffee that feels grounding. That first sip with sunlight reflecting off the pool. That quiet pause before the day properly began.

Morning calm: Coffee + light salad + Phuket sunshine. The ritual that grounded the day.

Coffee + sea + blue sky = three shades of calm. The kind of moment I refused to rush or be rushed.

Mid-morning refuel with a glass of creamy, nutty smoothie; paired with a toasted light bite.

🌿 Afternoons called for something cooler.

Usually some kind iced concoctions. These afternoon drinks became tiny celebrations of slowing down while I hid in the shade. Each sip was a testament that holidays don't need to be rushed.

Post-lunch at the lounge near the main bar, I settled in with this bright, citrusy cocktail that tasted like bottled sunshine. I'm pretty sure it was mango.

Excuse me while I sipped on a pineapple-topped frozen delight, relishing my unapologetically holiday mood in the lounge corner.

The pink cocktail was gentle and vodka-soft, the other bold with apple and ginger. Together, they turned a simple afternoon into a double dose of calm at the Zen Pool.

🌅 Evenings were for cocktails.

Mojito, espresso martini, something citrusy, something sweet. Each one felt like a little chapter — light, fizzy, soothing, or bold — depending on the mood.

It was more than a cocktail. It was a glass as blue as the pool, glowing quietly against the skyline as the day gave way to night.

More cocktails in the early evening by the pool, when the sky still has hints of blue, and the night hasn't quite begun.

A crisp cocktail with a leafy crown, perfect for slowing down as the day fades.

There's something about an Espresso Martini at night. It's strong and unapologetic, like a bold jolt that carries you into the late hours.

And somewhere between the first sip and the last, I realised I didn't miss the activities. I didn't need to tick boxes or keep up with a schedule. The simplicity of it became its own kind of ritual, a way of noticing the small pleasures that often get lost when we're too busy "doing."

Maybe that's the real luxury of a place like Club Med. It doesn't pressure you to do everything. It gives you the space to choose your own version of holiday happiness, even if that means spending everyday measuring your days in cups and glasses.

Because sometimes the best souvenirs aren't activities ticked off a list, but the little rituals you bring home with you. And mine? The freedom of doing almost nothing, but still come home with memories worth keeping.

Mixing Life into a Bowl of Guilin Rice Noodles

When I think back on my trip to Club Med Guilin, one of the most memorable experiences wasn't the mountains, the shows, or even the Zen pool. It was a simple bowl of Guilin mi xian (rice noodles).

What makes this dish special isn't just the noodles themselves, but the way you prepare before you eat this dish. You don't just sit down and slurp — you build it. Start with the soft, springy rice noodles, add a ladle of the broth/brine, then toss in your toppings: fried peanuts, Guilin chili, sour pickles. Most people will also add chopped spring onion and coriander but I won't.

Next, mix it up, taste, and adjust. Maybe you'll want a little more crunch, a bit more sour, or an extra kick of spice. In the end, no two bowls are ever exactly the same.

And that's when it hit me: Guilin mi xian is more than food. It's a reminder that life is meant to be customised. You don't have to follow the same "recipe" as everyone else — you get to decide how spicy, how simple, or how bold your own bowl should be.

That felt especially true for me in Guilin. At Club Med, the schedule is packed with activities — trapeze, pool games, archery. But instead of running around trying to do it all, I chose to slow down, sit back, and savour small things. Like a mojito at sunset. Like the mist curling around the mountains. And yes — like this bowl of noodles, layered with flavour, just the way I liked it.

Sometimes the best memories aren't about doing everything, but about choosing what to mix in and what to leave out. Just like Guilin mi xian, life is better when you make it your own.

The Art of Doing Nothing in Club Med Guilin (And Loving It)

I’ll admit it: I’m an indoor person. Whenever I go to Club Med, I never touch the trapeze, the archery, or the pool games — that’s just not me. My idea of a holiday isn’t chasing a schedule, it’s avoiding one. So when I arrived at Club Med Guilin, surrounded by those breathtaking karst mountains, I had zero intention of doing “all the things.”

And honestly? That felt like the perfect plan. No schedules, no running around. Just… nothing. And you know what? It was glorious.

My version of rebellion looked like this: wandering to the bar, picking a drink I’d never tried before, and carrying it straight to the pool. I’d sit there with my mobile phone, sip slowly, and let my eyes wander. Suddenly, I noticed things I’d completely missed the day before — the greeneries, the light shifting as the day passed, the quiet hum of life happening around me.

That became my new routine. Different drinks, same mission: find the best corner to do absolutely nothing. Afternoon clouds at the noodle bar patio with a cold beer. Sunset on my balcony with an unfamiliar cocktail in hand (my personal favourite ritual). Watching the sky turn fiery orange without once checking the time.

Meanwhile, the resort carried on — parties, shows, laughter in the distance. I didn’t feel FOMO (quoting Wednesday, I have FOBI - 'Fear of Being Included'). I felt at peace, like I was watching another movie play out while I got my own private screening of Guilin’s beauty.

And here’s what I realised: sometimes the real luxury isn’t in doing everything, but in giving yourself permission to do nothing. To just sit. Breathe. Notice.

If you ever find yourself in a place buzzing with activities, try it. Grab a drink, step away from the noise, and let yourself be still. Trust me — it might just be the best thing you “don’t do” on your whole trip. 😉

How an Ambivert Like Me Enjoys a Beach Holiday at Club Med Cherating

What's an Ambivert?

I took this quiz: Introvert, Extrovert, Ambivert Quiz. The scoring goes like this:

0-59 - Introvert
120-180 - Extrovert
60-119 - Ambivert

My score is 70. So, I'm an Ambivert. I'm somewhere in the middle of the spectrum and display characteristics of both an introvert and extrovert such as likely to be more flexible - can adapt to different social situations; feel comfortable in different social settings, but also enjoy time alone; know when to talk and when to listen; and ambiverts are usually well-balanced people who can wear many different hats and be successful at it.

So, how does an Ambivert like me enjoy a beach holiday at Club Med Cherating?

The key to have fulfilling experiences during a beach holiday is to find the perfect balance between partying and embracing solitude and self care.

#1 - Take time to explore the grounds

For me, when I just arrive at a resort, it's always a good idea to take some time to roam around and explore the grounds - architecture, pathways, etc. Take time to soak in all that serenity, calmness, and freedom of being away from work!

#2 - Capturing timeless moments on video

When I come across something delightful or memorable, I'll record those moments for my personal keepsake. Whether or not I choose to share them on social media right away is entirely optional.

#3 - Sunset contemplation

Watching the sunset skyline can be a mesmerizing and solitary way to end the day.

#4 - Exploring nature

Look what I found when I was roaming around the area. I saw bats, monitor lizards. Monkeys too actually.

#5- Quiet reflection

Beaches offer a tranquil setting to reflect, meditate, or simply relax. No frills. Just the sun, breeze, and peace.

#6 - Solo beach walks

Strolling along the shoreline solo to enjoy the serene beauty of the beach and my own thoughts.

#7 - Enjoying drinks at the bar

Need I say more? The main bar (Orchid Bar) at Club Med Cherating offers bottomless drinks - coffee, tea, mocktails, cocktails.

#8 - Relaxing by the main poolside & Zen Pool

You just have to spend some time in the water.

#9 - Participate in the themed night celebrations

Club Med Cherating has themed nights with different dress codes every night after dinner. This is a fun way to participate in the night's theme.

When I was from Thursday to Sunday, we have the following themes.

Asian (Thursday)

Thursday featured an Asian-themed lion dance performance.

Black & Glow (Friday)

During the Black & Glow theme on Friday, we enjoyed a captivating neon lights performance, followed by a lively Glow Party on the dance floor.

White & Jeans (Saturday)

The White & Jeans night on Saturday included the Music Factory show, followed by an evening of dancing to 80s and 90s hits.

#10 - Moonlight appreciation

Finally, after all that vibrant and lively festivities come to an end, there's nothing quite like a peaceful stroll back to your room beneath the moonlit sky.

In summary, anyone can make the most of a beach holiday by embracing the tranquility and opportunities for self-reflection that coastal settings offer, creating a restful and rejuvenating experience.

Anniversary & Birthday Trip to Club Med Bali (June 2022)

Club Med Bali

When in Club Med Bali, one must take many photos and videos. So yeah, super long post ahead, get ready!

Accommodation

Based on the description from Club Med Bali's website, the Superior Rooms are comfortable and generously proportioned. The shades of red and exotic wood furniture reflect Balinese craft traditions. My husband and I and our two kids stay in two adjacent Superior Rooms.

Gastronomical Excellence

I have been to Club Med Cherating in Malaysia, Club Med Phuket in Thailand, and now Club Med Bali in Indonesia. One of the many reasons I love to spend my holiday at Club Med is the convenience of access to many types of food and cuisines under one roof.

I have the freedom to choose what I want to eat and drink for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Exploring the Grounds

At Club Med Bali, we can embark on a journey connecting ourselves to the soul of this wonderful island destination, Bali. Let me copy these beautiful words from the welcome card: Discover its rich culture and traditions, explore nature's wonders, and experience the art of renewal in this beach paradise.

If you do make a trip here, look out for these 10 most photo-worthy spots:

1. Balinese Theater

2. Big Buddha

3. Nusa Dua Beach

4. Spa Respite

5. Coconut Walkway

6. The Kintamani

7. Zen Pool

Free Flow Beverages

One of my favorite highlights of this trip is sipping my drinks at the gorgeous Kintamani Bar.

Chillaxing at the Zen Pool

There are ample comfortable lounge chairs and even swing-beds in the vicinity of the Zen Pool where you can just lie down and rest while sipping on a glass of your favorite wine.

Here's my glass of rosé . Cheers!

Sun, Sea, Breeze

The Nusa Dua Beach is gorgeous.

Kids Club

If you are bringing your kids along, it's a super awesome idea and arrangement to place them at the kids club based on their age groups. They will be taken great care of because there are so many activities lined up for them throughout the day! The caretakers, known as G.Os are really good at handling the kids. My youngest boy remembers G.O Deri from #ClubMedBali very well.

More info about the kids club rates on their website (click the Childcare & Kids Rates tab).

Sunset Cruise

Some of us registered for the sunset cruise (5:30-6:30pm). We caught a glimpse of the sunset. The sea was a little bit choppy but overall it was a pleasant experience.

Party after 9PM

This is a great place where people are partying responsibly. There are no crazy non-kid friendly scenarios. Those who drink are drinking responsibly. Those who dance are dancing sensibly. So in my opinion, perhaps Club Med is the only legit place to bring kids to party.

Truly Memorable Trip!
