Exploring Windows® Internet Explorer 9 Beta

Microsoft Malaysia announced the beta availability of Windows Internet Explorer 9 on 30 September 2010. According to their official press release, Internet Explorer 9 delivers a fast, clean, trusted, and interoperable online experience that takes full advantage of Windows 7, putting the focus on the sites and applications people care about.

I've downloaded the beta version of Internet Explorer 9 to my laptop powered with Windows 7 and took a few screen captures. As I'm writing this post, I realized that Internet Explorer has always been my default Web browser ever since I got online. It was roughly two years ago when I decided to switch my browsing experience to Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera. With the Internet Explorer 9 beta release, I'm pretty confident that my trust and interest in Internet Explorer will be given a boost again!

According to the press release, one of the beautiful points of Internet Explorer 9 is the integration of a clean site-centric design with Windows 7. Internet Explorer 9 puts the focus back on the websites with a clean and minimalist user experience. Together with Windows 7 integration, and more area dedicated to displaying the Website, Internet Explorer 9 allows people see their Web content first and foremost.

I'm really glad to see that the Browser Mode: Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8 feature is easily located at the bottom of the browser. One of my job's crucial requirement is to test Websites across different versions of Internet Explorer, apart from other Web browsers. Being able to switch compatibility view in Internet Explorer 9 easily and conveniently without much hassle is indeed a life-saver!

Another point that I find interesting as I'm exploring Internet Explorer 9 is the strategic location of the "Add to favorites" feature on the top right navigation area of the browser. Upon clicking that little "star" icon, I'll be shown a column with three tabs: Favorites, Feeds, History. Convenient, clean, uncluttered -- that's how I like my Web browser to look like!

Now, back to the press release again. This point in the following paragraph is pretty convincing.

Internet Explorer 9 is designed to be the most trusted browser because it has a robust set of built-in security, privacy, and reliability technologies that keep customers safer online. Built on the industry leading protections in Internet Explorer 8 such as SmartScreen Filters, In-Private Browsing and In-Private Filtering, Internet Explorer 9 provides the trust people need to feel safer online.

Let me give this post an ending with a statement from Yong Yu Tsing,
Windows Client Product Marketing Manager for Microsoft Malaysia.

"Browsing the Web is the most common task that Windows customers perform everyday. Here in Malaysia, users look to the Web as a source of entertainment, education, information and as a platform for self expression and communication. They want to do more online, in a safe and secure environment. Helping to make the Web faster, safer and more beautiful on Windows is what Internet Explorer 9 is all about."
