Movie: Mirror Mirror (2012)

The Snow White Legend Comes Alive

Mirror Mirror (2012) is a comedy fantasy movie based on the classic tale of "Snow White".

Synopsis: After marrying the beautiful Queen (Julia Roberts) who turns out to be a wicked enchantress, the King (Sean Bean) mysteriously disappears in the woods. 18 years later, Snow White (Lily Collins) rescues Prince Alcott of Valencia (Armie Hammer) from a band of seven 'mini' highway robbers (the seven dwarfs). Snow White later finds out that the evil Queen has been extorting gold from the people of the land. Not only so, she has also plotted to marry the Prince whom Snow White has fallen in love with. The Queen regards Snow White as a threat and orders her to be murdered in the woods, but she is found by the seven dwarfs. Snow White stays with them and grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her prince and restore her father's kingdom to its former glory.

Well, well, well. As a comedy movie, it does have its fair share of bone-tickling moments. I quite like this movie's adaptation and its subtle twists from traditional "customs". In this movie, the princess saves the prince and the princess doesn't need to be awakened by a kiss. The seven dwarfs don't look like old men and they are not very kind either. Haha!

Julia Roberts does a really delicate job in portraying her evil character so that she doesn't overwhelm the storyline or the comedic nature of the movie. That's a real treat! Lily Collins' sword fight scenes with Armie Hammer should not be missed too. :)

Overall, it's good to watch this heartwarming movie as a change after watching two dark and intense movies recently - The Hunger Games and Wrath of the Titans. :)
