The Thin Line

Think.

Being nice to someone who dislikes you doesn't mean you're fake. It simply means you're mature enough to tolerate their immaturity of disliking people according to their yardsticks.

Think twice.

Being nice to someone you dislike doesn't mean you're fake. It means you're mature enough to tolerate your dislike towards them.

That's how thin the line is.

The Sorting Hat Says Slytherin!

The Sorting Hat says, "I belong in Slytherin."

Said Slytherin, "We'll teach just those whose ancestry is purest."

Slytherin students are typically cunning and hungry for power. Important members include Draco Malfoy (Harry's nemesis), Professor Severus Snape (head of Slytherin), and Lord Voldemort.

Take the most scientific Harry Potter Quiz ever created.

"Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends."

Movie: Pokemon - Lucario & the Mystery of Mew

Yes, I watched a Pokemon cartoon, or anime if you want to call it that way. :P

For those who know me well, I'm a staunch unbeliever of any anime series. To me, they are either too childish to my taste or I can't fathom the need to watch things that may cause retarded-ness. Sorry about that and in fact, Pokemon is banned from my viewing list for that very reason. :)

Anyway, much to my surprise and to be fair, "Pokemon - Lucario & the Mystery of Mew" is not bad! Let's read its synopsis.

The world of Pokemon has many legends, but the people of Cameron Palace believe in one very special tale: The Legend of the Aura Guardian. Long ago, a hero, Sir Aaron and his Pokemon, Lucario saved the world from destruction - but can it be true?

Ash and his friends find out for themselves when Lucario is awakened and Pikachu disappears! With Lucario's help, Ash sets out on a journey to find Pikachu, a journey that leads him to a mystical tree called The Tree of Beginning and the Legendary Pokemon, Mew!

The future of a world and the fate of Ash and Pikachu will depend on the power of friendship between humans and Pokemon!

Considering the amount of positive vibes from the movie, i.e. friendship, loyalty, trust, and a rather touching ending, I'd say that watching this anime is a stress-free way to end a rather packed weekend due to attending #BarCampKL. :)

Weekend DVD 2: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

I didn't get to watch this movie at the cinema. So, it's good to catch it on a DVD over the weekend.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians is a series of fantasy novels. This movie, The Lightning Thief is adapted from the first novel.

Here's a short synopsis: Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon is accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt. Unaware of his status as a demigod living in the 21st century, Percy soon finds himself caught between angry and battling Olympian gods, especially with Hades who abducted his mother.

Left without choice, Percy and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save his mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Compared to Clash of the Titans, this movie definitely has a better storyline and not as crappy. I'd say it's amusing and entertaining, a no-brainer. It'd be good if you're somewhat familiar with the names of the Olympian gods (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, Aphrodite, Hermes, etc) and the mythical creatures (Minotaur, Centaur, Medusa, Hydra, etc).

Verdict: Get a copy and watch it if you haven't done so. :)

Weekend DVD 1: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)

My recent fascination with Star Wars is the reason my boyfriend suggested "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" as our weekend movie after returning home from a fruitful visit to Grafitti Toys at Berjaya Times Square. :P

I've a good time "scavenging" through rows of Star Wars item, checking out droids, and of course, buying them. Hehehe.

Anyway, back to the movie. With my minimal knowledge of the proper Star Wars timeline and its characters, coupled with the fact that I've never watched any George Lucas' Star Wars live action movie, I don't face any trouble understanding this movie because there's no pre-conceived ideas of how a Star Wars movie would be like. :P

If you still remember, the story goes like this: As the Clone Wars sweep through the galaxy, the heroic Jedi Knights struggle to maintain order and restore peace. More and more systems are falling prey to the forces of the dark side as the Galactic Republic slips further and further under the sway of the Separatists and their never-ending droid army.

Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano find themselves on a mission with far-reaching consequences, one that brings them face-to-face with crime lord Jabba the Hutt. But Count Dooku and his sinister agents, including the nefarious Asajj Ventress, will stop at nothing to ensure that Anakin and Ahsoka fail at their quest. Meanwhile, on the front lines of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda lead the massive clone army in a valiant effort to resist the forces of the dark side...

I enjoyed watching this movie, mainly because I can watch a lot of droids in action, i.e. battle droids, super battle droids, dwarf spider droids, droidekas, R2-D2, Obi-Wan's R4-something, etc. Well, it's always great to share the same interest with a loved one. :)

Movie: Shutter Island (2010)

Someone is missing.

Verdict: Intriguing & thought-provoking!

1954, Shutter Island - U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) investigates the case of a murderer who has disappeared and escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane. Worse, she might be hiding somewhere on the remote island.

A word of caution: Don't be fooled by this simple synopsis. :)

This movie is in fact a very brilliant psychological thriller that challenges you psychologically and demands your attention to discern reality from delusion. As the movie rolls on, you will be thinking, "Is this how the mind of those who are psychologically impaired or criminally insane work?"

The idea of "manipulating" what-could-possibly-happen-if-you're-a-psycho-case scenario into a movie is not something new. I've seen this approach in some Korean movies. However, kudos to the director,
Martin Scorsese who has successfully "tricked" us with elements of suspense and unpredictability throughout the entire movie, from the beginning till the end. Get ready for a good and unexpected twist-ending.

Leonardo DiCaprio proves that he's not just a pretty face. His performance in this movie deserves our attention.

To be honest,
this is not your typical weekend movie for mere entertainment. Brace yourself for a compelling, heart-gripping, and thought-provoking movie. No tissues needed but you'll leave the cinema hall in bewilderment. Am I exaggerating? Perhaps. But the verdict is yours to make. :)
