Beagle Mania

One day, if I can get a dog, I'll get a Beagle. Definitely a Beagle.

The Beagle is a hardy, sturdy, squarely-built, small hound. They have a sleek, easy-care, short coat that comes in tri-color, black and tan, red and white, orange and white, or lemon and white. Their long, wide ears are pendant and their brown or hazel eyes have a trademark pleading expression.

Not all Beagles will howl, but most will bark when confronted with strange situations, and some will bay when they catch the scent of potential quarry.

The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively, and curious dog that loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Sociable, brave and intelligent. Calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, unless they are socialized with cats and other household animals when they are young. However, they do not like to be left alone and can be prone to separation anxiety.

Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. They are intelligent, but as a result of being bred for the long chase are single-minded and determined, thus making them hard to train. They are generally obedient but can be difficult to recall once they have picked up a scent and are easily distracted by smells around them.

They are not demanding with regard to exercise; their inbred stamina means they do not easily tire when exercised, but they also do not need to be worked to exhaustion before they will rest, though regular exercise helps ward off the weight gain to which the breed is prone.

I like the fact that they have a mind of their own... Just like me...

They are easily distracted when they catch on new scents... I can be fairly distracted when I catch new interests...

Prone to weight gain? Nah... Not me...

BEAGLE is the DOG!
