[Friday-31] Movie: Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Nothing Escapes Him

That's one cool tagline to describe Detective Sherlock Holmes. I grew up reading Sherlock Holmes, a fictional character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes' one o
f my favorite characters in crime fiction, apart from Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.

Okay, now about Sherlock Holmes, the movie. As we all kn
ow, Robert Downey Jr. is Detective Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law is Dr. John Watson, Holmes' ally. Rachel McAdams is Irene Adler, the female character that outwits Holmes in this movie.

I like this perfectly written synopsis from IMDb
:

After finally catching serial killer and occult "sorcerer" Lord Blackwood, legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson can close yet another successful case. But when Blackwood mysteriously returns from the grave and resumes his killing spree, Holmes must take up the hunt once again.

Contending with his partner's new fiancée and the dimwitted head of Scotland Yard, the dauntless detective must unravel the clues that will lead him into a twisted web of murder, deceit, and black magic - and the deadly embrace of temptress Irene Adler.

Three most notable attractions from this movie:

1. Conversation liners amongst the main characters, i.e. Holmes, Watson, Adler, Inspector Lestrade. Peppered with the correct amount of smart humor and sarcasm, you can't help but laugh and admire at how good the script was written! Even Gladstone the English Bulldog can act! :D

2. Holmes' outstanding analytical skills despite his seemingly sloppy and unprofessional appearance. I've always thought that Holmes' a well-mannered gentleman. Well, in this movie, he's not. :)

3. Holmes' and Watson's relationship as brothers in bond though not in flesh. It's kinda touching to see how a smart Holmes can be emotionally dependable on his ally, Watson. Well, he's human. Also, how a levelheaded Holmes can be outwitted by Irene, his love interest.

Amazing. Awesome. Highly recommended.

Now, I'm reading this book:
