I'm liking the new interface for the updated Foursquare for Symbian client on my Nokia X6. Loading time is smoother and now I can include photos in my check-ins! This may not be something new but it's definitely a much-awaited and well-accepted improvement for Foursquare for Symbian users.

Nokia Recycle A Phone Adopt A Tree Program

Earlier this month, Nokia Malaysia launched Nokia Recyclimpics, the nation's first recycling sporting event at Mid Valley Megamall. The catch of the event was that people attended the event with their old mobile phones, play some games, win some cool prizes, and most importantly, SAVE THE EARTH.

After depositing four of our old mobile phones at the event, David and I received four registration cards for the Nokia Recycle A Phone Adopt A Tree Program.

The card looks like this:

Here are the steps we took to plant trees under our name in Indonesia:

1. Log into http://www.nokia.mynewtrees.com/Register.aspx to register.
2. Follow the instructions as shown on the screen.
3. Type in the serial number and Registration number which is located below this card.
4. Nokia will send you a planting certificate with the co-ordinates of your tree via email.

This is the notification after our registration.

Here's how we view our trees:

1. Go to website: http://www.nokia.mynewtrees.com

2. To allocate your tree, type your name or email address, and click the button "Find Your Trees". The map at the right panel will automatically navigate to your tree's coordinate with a tree icon.

3. Double click on your tree icon at the right panel, and the tree information will be displayed.

My trees are 19996 and 19997.

Here's some information about the program.

NEWTrees Program is a re-forestation & peat land preservation project in which Nokia has committed fund to plant of more than 100,000 trees & rejuvenate the peat forest in the Sebangau & Rinjani National Parks.

Nokia has committed fund to the man-made canals damming project by WWF Indonesia. This project help to bring back the natural water table balances within the peat forest and thus prevent the drying up & underground peat fires.

The Nokia sponsored plots for re-forestation are geo-tagged (with latitudes and longitudes) with N95 device and upload to the free 'Ovi Maps' and each tree planted could be individually identified. Nokia N95 with its GPS capability will be used to take photo of the trees planted and then forward it to the program web-page in ‘Ovi Maps’ to be geo-tagged onto the park map and viewed by anyone instantly.

Nokia Recyclimpics 1-3 July 2011

 
What comes to your mind when you hear this word - Nokia? To me, it's my favorite and most affordable mobile phone brand.

Recently, Nokia Malaysia is getting all out to touch base with its consumers and create a buzz in the mobile device industry. Honestly, I really like Nokia's recent initiatives. One of it being Nokia's World's Biggest Angry Birds Playground, held on 11 June 2011. Here's my blog post: Nokia's World's Biggest Angry Birds Playground.

This month, Nokia continues the buzz with Nokia Recyclimpics, the nation's first recycling sporting event. The catch of the event is that you come to the event with your old phones, play some games, and you might win some cool prizes. You can also get cool stuff from "Lucky Dip" once you've completed the games.

Most importantly, you can SAVE THE EARTH.

David and I attended Recyclimpics with four old Nokia phones which we intended to recycle. We submitted the phones to the counter and gotten them all wrapped up in bubble wraps. Then, we were given a score card for each phone and that gave us four score cards!

 
Here's the Lawn Bowl station. What you need to do is to slide your phone on the board and try to reach the red band that gives you 40 points. You have three tries for each phone to accumulate a total of 120 points max per score card at this station.

 
Here's the Javelin station. Aim at the five holes with different diameters and throw your phone. Try to aim at the smallest hole (red) that gives you 50 points. You have three tries for each phone to accumulate a total of 150 points max per score card at this station.

 
Here's the Basketball station. Aim at the three nets with different heights on the vertical board and throw your phone. Try to aim at the highest net (red) that gives you 30 points. You have three tries for each phone to accumulate a total of 90 points max per score card at this station.

See the four phones circled in black in the photo above? Those are, I mean were, our old phones that we finally donated into the recycling box. :)

Project 365 2011 - Photo #183

What you see here are a notebook made from recycled paper, an eco bag, and an event leaflet. We got them from our "Lucky Dip" session after we participated in Nokia Malaysia's Recyclimpics event.

Nokia Recyclimpics is touted to be the nation's first recycling sporting event. Come with your old phones, play some games, and most importantly, save the earth.

My beloved Nokia E71

Phone Hunt™ has ended. It's actually a company phone with company line. At least, I'm owning it on behalf of the company. :P

Gotten it in late August 2009, if I don't remember wrongly. Since then, I've experienced and still experiencing LOADS of fun and convenience while I'm away from my working laptop. Here are a few points:

1. Enhanced mobile surfing experience (especially WAP, Twitter & Facebook).

2. Checking work email while I'm on the go without hassle.

3. Capturing higher quality photos with its 3.2MP camera for my Twitpic, Facebook Mobile Uploads, and this blog!!!

4. Its battery can last up to 5 days if I don't engage it in exhaustive tasks, especially mobile surfing for too long.

Hmmm... So, I can sign in to my Blogger account via my Nokia E71 effortlessly, thanks to DiGi Data Unlimited Plan.

However, I can't customize my font size and color via this interface.

Updated: New Mobile Phone Hunt™

I shall ditch my hunt™ of getting an E63. I think I've fallen in love with E71!!!

Four colleagues are using E71. Two of them (ladies) own the elegant white E71. One guy owns a slick and sexy black E71 and another guy owns the oh-so-gorgeous silver E71! Today, an ex-colleague showed me his one-month old slick and sexy black E71.

Arrrggghhh!!!

My first, initial, and immediate interest was in the oh-so-sweet-looking pinkish E71. But then, I heard rumors that this pink one won't be sold in the Malaysian market. Haiyaa... So, I shifted my attention to the oh-so-gorgeous silver E71. Behold, I mean, beware the temptation. :P

When I hold this phone for the first time in my hands and "molested" it again and again, I could feel that owning one should be my destiny. Ahahahaha!

The problem is: I need to berpijak pada bumi nyata. Forking out RM1,300 plus at one go will disrupt my financial stability. Not that I couldn't do so, but I choose not to do so. May be I'm too logical and sensible. Hmmmmm.....

How arr? I really [heart] this phone so much. Or, should I get those 1-year interest-free credit card payment installment plan? Whatever you call that plan as. Hmmmmm.....

New Mobile Phone Hunt™

Scenario: I'm hunting for a new mobile phone to replace my current personal phone, a Nokia 6111, which serves me well with its basic functions of making/receiving calls and sending SMS/MMS, but that's it. Duh. :S

Questions:
1. What do I need the new mobile phone for?
2. What are the main functions that I want?
3. Do I have particular requirements about the phone's design and user-friendliness?

Answers:
1. I'm taking for granted that every mobile phone, regardless of being a low-end or a high-end phone is equipped with all the basic and necessary functions. So, my only extra requirement is I want to be able to access my blog plus community sites via mobile conveniently. That's it. No extra surfing time, no downloading. To surf the Internet, I'll still rely on my laptop. I don't download stuffs, so no problem.

2. First, QWERTY keyboard is preferred because I want to blog via mobile. Second, camera, not less than 2.0MP. Third, not more than RM1K, hopefully.

3. Well, I want something that projects feminity, whether mine or the phone's when I'm holding it. LOL! User-friendliness is a MUST! I don't want to spend a few hours trying to figure out how to off the damn thing. Also, I don't want a phone with an unstable OS.

Preliminary Results:
E63

I found an article that highlights the comparison between E71 and E63. The main difference: PRICE. According to Mobile88, currrent reference price for E71 is RM1,250-1,280 / RM1,245-1,275 (AP). Current reference price for E63 is RM920-950 / RM830-845 (AP). Sure borr?

Yes. It's a NOKIA 6500 classic (AP, RM665).

Don't talk about functionality and specs. Some girls are not into these funky, sophisticated terms, like my sis. Haha...

My sis likes the phone's slimness & elegance. As simple as that.

Actually, we girls are simple. We adore simplicity.

My Mobile History

Candy Bar? Clamshell? Slide? Swivel? Or Smartphones? Ooohhh... We are being spoilt by these ever-growing selection of mobile phones! I'm not a real gadget person. I have a Dell notebook, a HP Pocket PC, a NOKIA 6111, and a NOKIA 6020. That's about it.

My first mobile phone was a Siemens (I forgot its model but it's a candy bar). I bought it for myself when I was 22 and I registered for a 013-3XXXXXX postpaid line (until today I still don't understand why I chose TM at that time). This Siemens stayed with me for two months before I decided to "upgrade" to my dream brand: NOKIA. So, I bought a Nokia 3300, a candy bar hit six years ago. I got fed up with 013, terminated it and bought a 012-6XXXXXX prepaid simpack. Haha...

Out of a sudden, some stupid fellas robbed me off my dear Nokia and I suffered two agonizing months with an Alcatel... and another 012-2XXXXXX line, prepaid. Urgh... I never give up! I want a NOKIA! So, lady luck blessed me with another NOKIA, this time a NOKIA 3315 (still a candy bar). I bought it with my hard-earned money (still a campus student in my final years in University of Malaya, KL).

Then, DiGi is getting stronger with their ads and I made up my mind to switch from Maxis to DiGi. So, I bought a 016-3XXXXXX prepaid simpack. I have been a STRONG DiGi supporter ever since.

Ermmm... I can't live forever with a NOKIA 3315 when I want those cool polyphonic ringtones. So, I managed to upgrade to a NOKIA 3200 (still a candy bar). At this time, I switched my line from prepaid to postpaid. I couldn't retain the whole number but at least, 5 of the digits are still the same in terms of sequence.

Now and for the time being, I have a NOKIA 6111, a slide phone.

NOKIA 3200 is still with me, and I have another candy bar (NOKIA 6020, company phone, also 016-3XXXXXX). No more polytones for me. Now, I either fancy true tones or MP3 as my mobile ringtones. But then... Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones, the W-series are tempting!

Or is NOKIA 6233 Music Edition good enough?

Or a NOKIA N73 (smartphone)? I'm not really into 3G yet.

And I have a Pocket PC (HP iPAQ 3715) already.

I use my mobile phone to make calls, receive calls, send SMS & MMS, listen to MP3 and FM radio, alarm clock, calendar, reminder. That's quite enough. So, why should I spend my money to upgrade anymore on mobile phones? Hmmmm.... after thinking twice, I think I'd keep my NOKIA 6111. It's still elegant and stylish. It still serves me well ;-)
