Movie: Apollo 18 (2011)

There's a reason we've never gone back to the moon.

Apollo 18 (2011) is a sci-fi horror movie based on the premise that the officially canceled Apollo 18 mission was actually launched in December 1974 but never returned, and as a result the United States has never launched another expedition to the Moon.

Synopsis from IMDb: Decades-old found footage from NASA's abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon.

As a mockumentary found-footage style movie, Apollo 18 is rather similar to The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, and Paranormal Activity. So, the entire storyline is fake and the only "real" aspect is that some archival footage from NASA of previous Apollo missions are used in a few sequences.

Some say it's Blair Witch meets Alien. Well, sort of. What else can you do on the moon apart from planting the U.S. flag, gathering moon rocks, routine expedition chores, and communicating with Earth about the expedition's progress? In fact, it can be quite monotonous and dull. So, there must be some form of alien existence to spice up the storyline which is confined to mainly two astronauts.

By the way, you won't be able to guess the aliens' whereabouts and the astronauts' fate until the final 30 minutes or so. From then on, the suspense level increases and it climaxes with a sad yet expected ending.

Overall, if you like mockumentaries, you might want to watch this movie.
