Movie: Push (2009)

PUSH - 2009 American science fiction thriller movie. It's notable that this movie excels above recent superhero genre movies. Hang on tight as a gang of superhero operatives takes you on a white-knuckle thrill ride.

"Push" is shot primarily in Hong Kong. The way this movie takes the audience to "tour" through Hong Kong's slump-like areas, wet markets, and budget hotels sets it apart from Hollywood's high-budget superhero movies. Better still, the superheros in "Push" are hardly distinguishable from normal human beings, thus they're surprisingly and remarkably realistic.

Let's take a look at its synopsis: A future-seeing Watcher, Cassie (Dakota Fanning) convinces a telekinetic Mover, Nick (Chris Evans) to help her in retrieving a briefcase that holds a highly confidential government secret. To outrun the government agents called the Division, they must enlist a mind-controlling Pusher, Kira (Camilla Belle) who could be their salvation - or doom.

Here's the list of superpowers in "Push", summarized from Push - Wikipedia:

1. Watchers: Able to foresee the future to various degrees, often basing their visions on the knowledge of the intentions of others.

2. Movers: Telekinetic, able to manipulate inanimate objects at varying distances.

3. Pushers: Able to push memories, thoughts and emotions into the minds of other people.

4. Bleeders: Able to emit high-pitched sonic vibrations that cause ruptures in a target's blood vessels.

5. Sniffers: Able to track the location of either people or objects over varying distances.

6. Readers: Able to use physical contact of an object to view its history.

7. Shifters: Able to temporarily shift patterns of light on any object to create illusions to the naked eye.

8. Wipers: Skilled at either temporary or permanent memory erasure.

9. Shadows: Able to block the vision of Sniffers, making any subject within their target radius appear "dark".

10. Stitches: Psychic surgeons trained to quickly reconstruct cells to their previous or healthy state. Using only their hands, they can heal and even "un-heal" whatever they have done.

Push is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, smoking and a scene of teen drinking. Run time is slightly under 2 hours. Worth a watch.

Note: I watched this movie on DVD.
