Holiday DVD 4: Firewall (2006)

They're already inside.

Firewall (2006) is about Jack Stanfield (Harrison Ford), a bank security expert who specializes in designing infallible theft-proof financial computer systems. However, there's a hidden vulnerability in the system he didn't account for - himself.

When a ruthless criminal mastermind, Cox (Paul Bettany) and his gang kidnap his wife, Beth (Virginia Madsen) and children, Sarah and Andy, Jack is forced to find a flaw in his system and steal $100 million.

With the lives of his wife and children at stake and under constant surveillance, Jack has only hours to find a loophole in the thief's own impenetrable system of subterfuge and false identities to beat him at his own game.

This movie is almost five years old, hence the somewhat out-dated hacking technology used by Jack or the criminals. There's no sophisticated "firewall" or other systems to be hacked. What you'll see is basically a lot of laptops, cameras, surveillance system, home alarm system, GPS/tracking system, and normal mobile phones. I suppose smartphones weren't the in-thing at that period of time. Neither iPhone nor Android was seen. :)

The storyline is straightforward and somewhat predictable but Paul Bettany's impressive performance as the mean villain justifies my time spent to watch this movie. The fight scene at the end of the movie between Harrison Ford and Paul Bettany is rather intense and the happy ending is... well, happy. :)
