D'King Vegetarian Snow Skin Musang King Durian Mooncakes

This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 27 September. Recently, I'm introduced to D'King, a premium durian mooncake brand. Yes, durian! I'm on cloud nine!

For this year's festival, D'King introduces their Vegetarian Snow Skin Musang King Durian Mooncakes. These mooncakes are handmade and contain no preservatives and artificial flavoring. The durian paste is made from premium grade Musang King durians sourced from Pahang.

Last year, D'King's D24 durian mooncakes were very well received. So this year, they decide to go ahead with the infamous Musang King. Musang King is selected for its creamy, sticky flesh, strong scent, and flavor that melts in one's mouth.

The founder of D'King, Simon Chin explains that D'King's durian mooncake filling is made from actual durian flesh, not pre-processed paste. The durians are peeled and their seeds and flesh removed immediately upon arrival to prepare the filling. The D'King team doesn't wait too long or else the durians will break open on its own, losing its aroma and taste.

My verdict: I have eaten two of these babies at one go and I can testify that the filling is REAL durian flesh, nothing else. I'm very impressed with its texture, flavor, and overall taste. They are really exquisite.

These mooncakes are also unique for their delicate, light-textured snow skin. The snow skin - prepared by D'King's pastry chef - has to be thin enough to emphasize the real durian filling but still strong enough to hold it all in shape.

My verdict: I usually stay away from snow skin mooncakes because those that I have tasted leave a kind of sugary aftertaste that I dislike. This one, I can eat two at one go, perhaps three if I don't care about calories (LOL), without complaining. I can taste the durian filling more than the skin! Thumbs up!
