To some extent, I enjoy classical hymns compared to contemporary Christian songs (either pop or rock). Alternatively, I'm quite OK with some new hymns with a slight tinge of contemporary flavor.

To me, hymns are one of the sources to draw us closer to our Lord Jesus. Such hymns won't draw us into the enjoyment of the soul merely. If I end up merely enjoying the song's tune, then I miss the mark of using that song/hymn to draw near to Jesus. That's how I feel.
